Wrentham Holding Waste Collection and Charity Donation Event at DPW

Dispose of your hazardous waste properly and donate your extra clothes and other items for the needy.

Wrentham is holding its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day and donation this May. On Saturday, May 11, the Wrentham Department of Public Works Yard will be accepting hazardous waste to properly dispose of. They will also be accepting used clothing for the Salvation Army and building resources for the Boston Building Resources organization. They are also collecting bicycles for the Bikes Not Bombs organization, used crayons and pet food for the Animal Shelter. They will be accepting for the Salvation Army used women's, men's, and children's clothing, including shoes and accessories, gently used household items such as towels, sheets, curtains, throw rugs, all kinds of items you would find in the kitchen and bathrooms, plus nick-knacks, …

1. The King Philip High girls' softball team will be hosting Oliver Ames in the season opener today at 3:30 p.m. while the girls' tennis team will also be playing the Tigers. 2. Snow Woes: Wrentham's Storm Budget Reaches $200K

Wrentham's snow and ice budget is at $200,000.

  The Wrentham selectmen talked with public works superintendent Michael Lavin regarding the snow and ice budget Tuesday before Thursday's storm. “We’ve had 20 events,” said selectmen chair Joseph Botaish Tuesday. “Sanding events are constantly happening. It may be for a couple of hours or four hours, but it’s still an event that incurs a cost.” Lavin said, as of March 5, the snow and ice budget is running at about $200,000, mostly because of the Feb. 8 storm. “I couldn’t be prouder than to be a member of the DPW team,” Lavin said, regarding the February blizzard. “We had contractors that left in the middle of the storm because they couldn’t handle it. DPW staff didn’t stop for 26 hours. It showed their fortitude.” Selectmen agreed …

Wrentham Public Works Head Explains Changes in Trash Pickup and More in Selectmen Notebook

At last night's Wrentham selectmen meeting, DPW Superintendent Michael Lavin explained some of the changes in the town's trash pickup, the town legal council made sure there was no conflit with their work for the Mass. Gaming Commission, and the Wrentham

The changes in Wrentham's trash pickup were noticed when they started last month. As chairman Joe Botaish mentioned, he heard plenty of complaints during Wrentham Day. To help explain why there seems to be a difference in quality since Waste Management took over, Michael Lavin was asked to come in front of the board to help clarify the differences. According to Lavin, the main difference between American Waste, the town’s previous trash collector and the current collector, Waste Management is that Waste Management is less lenient on the rules that existed even when the town used American Waste. “The only real change that started with the flyer was the change in the telephone number,” said Lavin who was referring to Waste Management's phone…

Wrentham Selectmen to Interview DPW Superintendent Candidates

Town seeking replacement for Irving Priest, who is retiring.

The Wrentham Board of Selectmen will interview three candidates later this month as it looks to fill the Department of Public Works superintendent position. The board has scheduled a meeting for May 29 to conduct the interviews. The candidates were selected by a search committee, which was convened in March. The Sun Chronicle has reported that these candidates are Swansea town engineer Modris Pukulis, former Agawam public works director Anthony Silva and Framingham DPW operations manager Michael Lavin Jr. Current DPW Superintendent Irving Priest will be retiring from the position in June.
