A look at some of the personalities that have come to live and work in Wrentham.
Wrentham has some long history, but did you know it also has been home to some major people? Probably the most famous was Helen Keller, who shared a home here in 1896 with Anne Sullivan. In the summers of 1898-1903, they lived in a cottage Sullivan rented on Lake Pearl. In 1903, they moved to 349 East St., where Keller lived until 1917. Educator Horace Mann, made famous by many streets and plazas in Franklin, studied law in Wrentham. Mann was an educator, congressman and the first secretary of the newly created Massachusetts Board of Education, the first such position in the U.S. Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane once lived here as well, and actor Mark Wahlberg still currently owns a summer home here, according to IMDB.com. Town administrator William Ketcham said Wrentham's town meeting will have rezoning articles for vote to increase the commercial tax base of the town.
Wrentham town administrator William Ketcham said Wrentham is moving towards commercial viability in the town to reduce tax burdens on the residential population. Ketcham said the Planning Board has been working on rezoning certain areas of Wrentham to commercial zoning. He said rezoning would attract more commercial businesses, which will in turn give more tax revenue to the town. The current rates per $1,000 for tax rates were $14.43 for homes and $17.06 for commercial business. “Generally speaking, a commercial business will end up paying more to a town than it demands on services,” he said. “It’s a way to reduce burden on residents… That’s one of the town’s priorities.” Ketcham said one of the areas selected for rezoning is the …

The Tigers beat King Philip at Nixon Gymnasium Tuesday night to improve to 7-4. KP dropped to 1-9.
One thing was clear to Oliver Ames boys' basketball coach Don Byron heading into Tuesday night's Hockomock League contest against King Philip: The Warriors were better than their 1-8 record indicated. "They present some problems – they’ve got good size and their guard play was really good tonight," he said. "They’ve battled everybody all year long with the exception of maybe one game." Byron's prediction proved to be true. The Warriors gave the Tigers all they had, outscoring Byron's squad in the first and fourth quarters. Still, it wasn't enough to defeat Oliver Ames at Nixon Gymnasium. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 67-60 to improve to 7-4 overall. KP dropped to 1-9 overall. While KP battled, it was the little mistakes and turnovers …
