King Philip Softball Fall in Division 1 South Finals to B-R

The Warriors' softball season came to a close after a 1-0 lost to Bridgewater-Raynham in the finals of the MIAA Division 1-South tournament.

They say defense wins championships. But what happens when both teams have superb pitching and solid defense? A fluke error wins the game. King Philip softball fell short in their attempt at a three-peat at the state championship, falling 1-0 in the D1 South Finals to Bridgewater-Raynham. After picking up two quick outs in the top of the 12th, B-R sophomore Madi Shaw blooped one into right field that just landed foul. Senior Rachel McCall then drew a full-count walk to put runners on first and second. KP ace Meg Rico fired a pitch to Chelsea Correira as both Shaw and McCall took off running. And then, it happened. Senior and UMass-bound catcher Olivia Godin (who had already caught a runner at first earlier in the game), fired a throw to …

Rico K's 15 as King Philip Softball Team Advances in Tournament

King Philip's Meg Rico led the way for the Warriors with 15 strikeouts and a sacrifice fly out that scored the game- winning run in a 1-0 win over Taunton Tuesday at home.

If anything, No. 1 King Philip’s 1-0 win in the opening round Division I south softball tournament against the No. 17 Taunton Tigers was a pitcher’s dual Tuesday. The Warriors now advance to the quarterfinal round where they will host No. 8 Somerset-Berkley at the PAL Fields today (June 6) at 3:30 p.m. While Taunton’s Jesse Aleixo was able to get the Warriors to hit into outs, the Tigers struggled to even make contact against KP senior pitcher Meg Rico.  Rico was the difference maker for the Warriors both in the pitching circle and at the plate. Striking out 15, Rico had trouble early on finding the strike zone and even got called for a few illegal pitches in the early innings. Rico found her groove in the top of the third inning when …

King Philip Win Earns At Least A Co-Share of League Championship

Warriors sweep season series against North Attleboro with a 4-0 win in Plainville

As King Philip put together its eighth consecutive win (this time a 4-0 victory over North Attleboro), the Warriors clinched at least a share of the Rex-Kelley Division of the Hockomock. With only two league games (Mansfield and Attleboro) left on the schedule, King Philip is in good position to grab its sixth consecutive league championship. The Warriors banged out 11 hits while scoring four runs en route to their 13th win against two loses.  Meg Rico scattered four hits, while striking out 11 and allowing two walks to grab her tenth win.    Nine games ago, King Philip fell 3-2 to Coyle Cassidy in Taunton. Since that loss, the Warriors have yet to relinquish another blemish on their record; even better, they have not allowed a run to …

King Philip Softball Bats Erupt Again

Warriors score four runs in the top of the first in Franklin and go on to win, 9-0.

In the season opener, Franklin and King Philip battled for 6½ scoreless innings before Anna O’Neill hit a grand slam to give the Warriors the win.  This time around, the visiting Warriors were not playing games and sent 10 batters to the plate in the opening inning. They would score four runs on five hits and never look back, taking a 9-0 Hockomock League victory. The win improves KP to 11-2, while Franklin falls to 6-7. In their last six games, the Warriors have outscored their opponents, 50-0. “We were ready to play,” KP Coach Jim Leonard said. “We kind of had a score to settle, as we didn’t think we put our best effort in the first time around. The girls practiced hard leading up to this game.” The game-winning run came across in the …

KP Softball: Rico Near Perfect Again

Senior strikes out another 16 and teammates bang out 14 hits en route to a 10-0 win over Stoughton.

The beginning of King Philip softball's game against Stoughton Monday looked eerily similar to their previous contest against Attleboro — a contest in which the KP bats could not get going while Warrior pitcher Meg Rico was cruising along via the strikeout.   This afternoon, in a battle of the Hockomock Division leaders, Rico was sending Stoughton batters back to the dugout, with the first nine Black Knights going down by way of the strikeout with a total of 16 throughout the game. Against Attleboro, the King Philip bats stayed silent until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Warriors sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring four runs to take the win. On this warm, sunny afternoon in Plainville, KP was able to score runs in the first and …

KP Softball Wins Again

Cayleigh McCarthy's two-run single fuels Warrior four-run sixth inning as KP grabs a 4-0 victory.

Attleboro batters were being sent walking back to the dugout after continually fanning against King Philip’s Meg Rico Thursday afternoon. The Warrior ace struck out every Bombardier batter at least once and concluded with 18 K’s on the afternoon. However, while Rico was cruising along the King Philip bats were idle and it looked as though the Warriors were going to be saddled with its second loss in three games. KP was able to rally, though, grabbing a 4-0 win. Through five-and-a-half innings, the game remained scoreless as Attleboro’s Hannah Smith went toe-to-toe with Rico, striking out seven batters of her own. Luckily, in the sixth inning, the Warrior bats came alive and sent ten batters to the plate, scoring four runs on five hits to …

O'Neill Provides Late Inning Spark For KP Softball Team

Franklin held scoreless as Warriors get grand slam in bottom of the seventh with two outs to earn 4-0 win.

For six and a half innings, King Philip’s Meg Rico and Franklin’s Elizabeth Criscone were involved in an opening day pitcher’s duel. The Warrior ace had given up only one hit (to Panther leadoff batter Becca Seifort with two outs in the sixth), while fanning 13. On the other side, her counterpart, Criscone, had kept the KP bats relatively silent, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five. Rico walked the opening batter of the seventh inning before striking out the Panthers' four, five and six batters to give her teammates a chance to win the contest in their final at-bat. It was the KP pitcher who got things going with her second hit on the afternoon. Shortly after that, she stole second base, leaving the Warriors with the…
