Brown Trails Warren by Five Points A new poll from the Boston Globe shows Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren leading Senator Scott Brown 43% - 38% with 18% of those polled undecided. The poll was made of 502 randomly selected likely voters and has a margin of error of 4.4%. Brown and Warren will face off tonight in their second debate at 7:00 p.m. tonight on WHDH, New England Cable News, WBZ Newsradio 1030, and WRKO 630. KP School Committee Approves FY2013 Budget and Handbooks

The committee met on June 18 to approve the school budget, handbooks, and say goodbye to retiring teachers.

  The King Philip School Committee approved an operating budget of $25,474,900 along with a FY2013 Debt Service Budget (Proposition 2 ½ excluded) of $2,571,743 Monday night. One of the main discussion points of the budget talk was the potential to rehire some teachers that were let go for budget reasons.The committee hopes to bring back six teachers pending state aid the school system would receive from this year’s state budget. While the state budget hasn't been approved, funding from the state legislature has been seen as more generous than the governor’s proposal according to Wrentham Business Administrator Paul Schafer The school committee also said goodbye to the four retirees of the King Philip school system. King Philip School Committee Reviews School Policy, Approves Fees Structure

The King Philip School Committee approved a new tier structure for activity fees while having the first readings for multiple items.

  The King Philip School Committee met at the Woods School in Plainville Monday night to finish old business and complete the first readings for many items. Completing unfinished business, the committee continued to look at the FY2013 budget, this time focusing on activities fees for athletics and band. As explained by Dr. Wendy Wagner Robeson, a new structure would be created for sports fees. Under the current system, sports are divided into three tiers based on the cost of the sport per student. The proposal creates a four tier system starting at $200 with each tier increased by $100. To decided which sport goes where, the total cost of the program is divided by the amount of students participating in the sport. The number is then …

King Philip Examines Hiring Process

District studied hiring process after job offer to accused felon.

The King Philip School Committee spoke Monday night about changes to the district's hiring policy. The conversation was spurred earlier this year after the district offered a coaching position to someone accused of a felony in Florida. District Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said parents consulted about the matter emphasized the importance of more extensive background checks. She said the school's current checks are for in-state records. "CORI in Massachusetts still only gives Massachusetts backgrounds," she said. "The question is: how much further do you want to go?" Zielinski asked the committee whether it would want extended background checks on the teaching staff, the coaching staff or all the district's volunteers. "We have a lot …

40 Applicants for King Philip Principal Job

King Philip School District continues search for high school principal.

The King Philip School District has received about 40 applications for the high school principal job, Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said Monday night. The superintendent, speaking at the King Philip School Committee meeting, said efforts toward finding a new principal continue. Zielinski said she had sent a letter to parents asking for volunteers for a search committee. "If we put everyone [who responded] on, we may have a search committee of 60 people," she said. "We got feedback from all three towns." Zielinski said she was hoping to hire a principal by the second week of June, and will create a schedule to accomodate that goal.
