Stoughton loses 1-0 to King Philip Monday afternoon at home.
On Monday, the Stoughton High boys soccer team hosted King Philip and fell 1-0. It was the sixth time this season the Black Knights came out on the losing side in one-goal games. In fact, in nine games this season for the Black Knights, all but two contests have been decided by just one goal. Against King Philip, Warriors’ senior Tim Hughes scored the game’s lone goal 15 minutes into the first half. Stoughton came out and controlled possession for 85 percent of the second half, Stoughton coach Matt Bernstein said, but the team was unable to find the equalizer. Bernstein credited senior captains Gabe Garcia, Zach Finer and goaltender Mike Vulakh for strong performances in the loss.

Hopkinton shuts out the Warriors, 2-0.
In order to win soccer games, one must put the ball in the net more than the opposition. The Warriors had another rough time hosting Hopkinton and subsequently lost its fourth contest of the season, falling 2-0. “We are not going to win games if we don’t put the ball in the back of the net, and you’re not going to win games when you put our goalkeeper under pressure inside our 10-yard line,” KP coach Kip Lewis said. “You give up a goal like we did, when it’s our fault and not something they did, it’s hard to take. I’d rather give up a goal on a corner kick.” With the game scoreless in the first half, Hopkinton …

Foxboro defeats King Philip 1-0.
As the rain fell from the skies, King Philip and Foxborough battled it out on the wet grass in Wrentham in a Hockomock League boys soccer game. After a scoreless first half, the visiting Warriors were able to beat KP keeper Jim Murphy in the early moments of the second half and held on for the 1-0 victory. At the 39th minute of the second half with the rain still falling, Foxboro’s Adian Hyland took a long shot from the right hand side that sailed into the upper left hand corner of the net for the only score of the contest. After putting the ball behind Murphy so early in the second half, Foxboro had to rely on its defense to preserve the win. “I tip my hat to them; they had a good hit early on and protected that goal,” KP Coach Kip Lewis…
