The No. 2 seeded Wheaton College Lyons will play Salem State in the regional opener.
Former King Philip standout Alec Palioca and the Wheaton College baseball team earned No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament. The Lyons will play Salem State Wednesday in the regional opener at Harwich's Whitehouse Field. Second-seeded Wheaton is ranked no.15 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, will make its 12th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in program history. Wheaton College junior Alec Palioca (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week by the league office, it was announced Monday. Palioca no-hit Coast Guard over seven innings pitched in his only start on the week for Wheaton April 5. Palioca, who was pulled with his no-hitter still intact, walked two batters and struck out a season-high nine hitters in the Lyons 4-0 win. In six appearances this season (all starts), Palioca is 5-1 overall with a 1.83 earned run average and 41 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched. The Wheaton College baseball team, ranked No.10 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader against Clark University by scores of 7-0 (seven innings) and 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at Sidell Stadium. In the first game, junior right-handed pitcher Alec Palioca (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional) allowed just three hits over seven innings of work to push his record to 3-1 overall on the season. In his start of the year, Wrentham's Alec Palioca got the win as the No. 1 ranked Wheaton College baseball team improved to 2-0 with a 3-1 victory over Farmingdale State College Sunday afternoon on Long Island. The junior fanned five batters in five-and-thirds innings, giving five hits, one earned run and three walks to get the win. Wheaton will be playing the College of New Jersey in Winter Haven's Chain of Lakes Stadium at 6 p.m. as they start the Florida part of their schedule.

The Wheaton College baseball team is expecting a big season from junior righthander Alec Palloca, a former King Philip standout and Jared Celement of Wrentham and the Saint Sebastian’s School will be looking to be a factor in the starting rotation. Wrentham's Alex Palioca got his second win of the season for the Torrington Titans in an 8-0 win over the Brockton Rox in New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League action in Connecticut. With the 6'2'', 180-pounder improved to 2-0 for the Titans. In 11 innings of work, he struck out 15 batters, only walking five and allowing four hits. Against the Rox, Palioca went 5.1 shutout innings, giving up just two hits, striking out nine and walking just three batters. Palioca helped Wheaton College to the Division 3 World Series, where they finished as the runner-ups to Marietta College in Wisconsin, losing 7-2 in the title game with the Wrentham right hander on the board.
