The University of Maryland men's basketball team dropped a decision to North Carolina Wednesday night.
Former King Philip standout Jake Layman was on ESPN Wednesday night as the University of Maryland men's basketball team lost to the University of North Carolina. 79-63, at home. Layman came out the bench, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds. Despite a snow storm, there was a sellout crowd on hand for Seniors' Night. The 6-8 freshman from Wrentham is playing guard/forward and is featured on the team's website, dunking the basketball. He was averaging 5.4 points per game and has 88 rebounds and 156 points going into tonight's game. Former King Philip standout Jake Layman has seven points, including a three-pointer in the University of Maryland men's basketball team's 67-45 win over Morehead State Monday night at home. In the first three games of the season, the freshman guard-forward had appeared in two games, average five points a game, playing 31 minutes. Maryland is 2-1 on the season, only losing to defending champion Kentucky. Maryland will be playing Long Island University-Brooklyn Friday night at home. Formerly a King Philip standout, Layman got added experience this past summer with USA basketball
Jake Layman, while growing up in Wrentham, followed Atlantic Coast Conference basketball on a limited basis. He knew that Boston College was in the ACC, but when it came to signature programs he was well aware of Duke and North Carolina, perennial national powers. A former hoop star at King Philip Regional High School, the 6-foot-8 Layman has landed at another ACC school with a rich basketball tradition. Layman is days away from his first season at the University of Maryland, which won the NCAA national title in 2002 but is coming off a 17-15 record last season under first-year head coach Mark Turgeon. Former King Philip High standout Jake Layman can now add gold medal winner to his resume. His U18 United States men's basketball team defeated Brazil, 81-56, in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship gold medal game, in Brazil, Wednesday. Layman, who is headed to the University of Maryland, came off the bench in all five wins, scored 38 points, including going 6 for 15 from three-point land for a 7.6 points average. Warriors Basketballer Jake Layman verbally committed to Maryland.
King Phillip senior forward Jake Layman has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Maryland. After spending Labor Day weekend visiting College Park and with Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon, Layman made the commitment over the phone on his way home from the trip. The 6’8” small forward averaged 24.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game last year while leading the Warriors to their most wins in school history and to the Division 2 South basketball finals last season. The Hockomock MVP also garnered attention from Louisville, Florida and Syracuse.
