Nofolk state representative Dan Winslow and Cohasset businessman Gabriel Gomez are the only declared Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate.
There will be one less Norfolk resident in the race in the Massachusetts special Senate election to replace Secretary of State John Kerry. Republican Sean Bielat said Wednesday, while he thought he could run a strong campaign, that the timing wasn't right for running this time, according to an Associated Press report. Previously, he had run twice for Congress against Barney Frank and Joe Kennedy III, who he lost to in November. Norfolk state representative Dan Winslow is a candidate for the Republican nomination as is Cohasset businessman Gabriel Gomez. Former US Attorney Michael Sullivan is considering running. Bielat sought donations to run this weekend and filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.
Scott Brown isn't talking about his political future, but the state Democrats are acting like he will be a candidate for Governor of Massachusetts.

Scott Brown ended speculation Friday afternoon as to whether he would run for U.S. Senate, announcing that he is not entering the race for the seat left vacant by John Kerry’s confirmation to the post of Secretary of State. Two Democratic political opponents – Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) – will face off in the April 30 primary with the special election set for June 25. There are currently no Republican candidates in the race. Markey, who represents the 5th Congressional District, kicked off his campaign in December. Former United States Senator Scott Brown (R-Wrentham) would be a clear favorite against a democratic candidate in the Massachusetts Senate race, according to politico.com.
While he has been silent on the subject, a poll from MassINC, says Scott Brown has a 20-percent lead over Democratic frontrunner, congressman Edward Markey in a Massachusetts Senate race. Brown lost his senate seat to Elizabeth Warren in the November election. A report on politico.com has Brown winning 53 to 31-percent against Markey in a race for John Kerry's senate seat. Kerry is expected to be confirmed as secretary of state. Brown actually does slightly worst against a generic Democract, getting 44-36 percent. The poll involved 435 registered voters from Jan. 16-19. Brown has also been rumored a possible candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 2014. Since his political career started as the elected property assessor in 1992, Senator Scott Brown's profile has risen yet to many in Wrentham, he is the same person they always knew.
Anyone who comes to Wrentham, probably can tell from the signs in front of house after house that the town residents for the most part are big fans of Senator Scott Brown. The story of someone who was an elected property assessor in 1992 only to become a US Senator in 2010 is an improbable one and it is one of a town that has stood by and supported. Brown is running for reelection against Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren. If there were to be a Republican star from Massachusetts, it makes sense that Wrentham would be home to that person. The two candidates for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts faced off in their first live debate on Thursday night.
Stark differences came out early and often between U.S. Senate candidates Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown in their first debate, with disagreements on everything from tax policy, to job creation to women's rights. Over and over during the Thursday debate on WBZ-TV, Warren chose to bring up Sen. Brown's voting record, and Brown chose to point out that Warren's plan would raise taxes on everyone and stifle job creation. "He has said he will defend the top 2 percent and the top 3 percent...and will hold the other 98 percent of families hostage," Warren said, referencing Brown's position against extending the Bush-era tax cuts unless it also contained cuts for the country's top earners.
