Gomez to Face Markey in Senate Election

The former Navy SEAL and the longtime Congressman will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.

A political newcomer will face a long-time Massachusetts politician in the race to be the Bay State's next U.S. senator. The Associated Press has declared Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset and Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey of Malden the winners of their U.S. Senate special primary elections, according to tweets from Fox 25. The call for Gomez came approximately one hour after the polls closed in the statewide primary while a call for Markey came moments later. Gomez defeats his more seasoned opponents, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan of Abington and state Rep. Dan Winslow of Norfolk. Markey beat fellow U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch of South Boston. Brett Rhyne of Needham ran an …

Brown Says It's Time to Recharge

Scott Browm, the former US Senator from Wrentham, says he is taking a break and spending time with his family in an exclusive FOX-25 interview.

Scott Brown says he is recharging his batteries in a FOX-25 exclusive interview, aired Monday night. Part two of the interview will be airing tonight. After losing his US Senate seat to Elizabeth Warren in November, Brown decided not to run in the April special to fill the seat left by John Kerry's appointment as secretary of state. In the interview, Brown said it was too many elections in too short at time. He's, however, not commenting any future plans he has in politics. Instead, Brown says he is learning to play the guitar and learning to speak Spanish in between his work as a commentor on FOX News.

I don't blame Scott for declining this opportunity, but I am disappointed. The voters in this Commonwealth would be exceedingly hard pressed to obtain better.   more ›

Rep. Winslow Forms Committee to Explore US Senate Run

State Representative Dan Winslow has formed a committee to look into running for US Senate.

State Rep. Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk) is forming an exploratory committee to decide whether to run for US Senate. Winslow made the announcement Tuesday to look into running for the seat vacated by John Kerry's appointment as US Secretary of State.  “Today, I’m taking the necessary steps to form an exploratory committee to test the waters for the U.S. Senate," said Winslow. "We need to fix a broken Washington where progress is being hampered by partisan gridlock. If we continue to elect the same Washington politicians, we can not expect different results. “The people of Massachusetts and all Americans deserve solutions from their elected officials. Washington needs to focus on problem solving and implement ideas that will create jobs and …

Farm Bill Extension Halts Milk Price Increase

A decision of the expiring farm bill has been extended another year, preventing milk from doubling in price.

Milk prices won't be doubling after all, according to report on the Huffington Post. Instead, the expiring farm bill will be extended one more year, allowing the direct subsides to growers to be continued. There is no time table for the vote on the bill to be taken in 2013. Farm-state lawyers agreed to the extension Sunday as milk was expected to double in price to $7 a gallon if the bill was allowed to run out. Oklahoma Republican Representative Frank Lucus, the chairman of the House of Representatives' Agriculture Committee, was hoping the bi-partisian bill would be signed by President Barrack Obama by Jan. 1. "It is not perfect - no compromise ever is - but it is my sincere hope that it will pass the House and Senate and be signed by …

No Fourth Brown-Warren Massachusetts Senate Debate

Both Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren couldn't agree on a make-up date for their four US Senate debate, forcing organizers to canceled it.

(PRESS RELEASE) The fourth debate between Senator Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren, originally scheduled to be broadcast live on Tuesday, Oct. 30, but postponed because of the storm, will not be rescheduled. The Boston Media Consortium sponsoring the debate has been working with both campaigns to reschedule the match, and offered multiple alternative options. The campaigns could not agree on a new date, so the debate will not take place. “This is very disappointing for all the citizens who will not have an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates a week before this important election,” said WGBH executive producer Linda Polach, who has been coordinating the effort for the consortium. The debate was to take place at the WGBH …

Brown, Warren Spar Over Funds Raised

Sen. Scott Brown, Elizabeth Warren raise funds in first quarter.

Senator Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren have already raised sizable funds in their race to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate. According to campaign releases, Brown raised $3.4 million in the first quarter of the year, while Warren raised $6.9 million. Brown's campaign finance director John Cook said in a statement that the people of the state value the senator's independence. "The people of Massachusetts appreciate the independent, pro-jobs perspective that Senator Brown brings to each issue and they have rewarded him with yet another strong quarter of fundraising," Cook said. "We will once again be outraised by the Hollywood elites and out-of-state liberals that are backing our opponent, but we will have resources we …

Poll: Most Important Senate Issues

Democratic frontrunner Elizabeth Warren is expected to challenge Republican U.S. Senator Scott Brown.

In a few short weeks Massachusetts voters will vote in the March 6 Super Tuesday primary, and, while much focus is deservedly upon the upcoming presidential race, we decided to take a look ahead to the Sept. 6 Democratic Senate primary. Democrats will have three choices for someone to challenge Republican Senator Scott Brown: frontrunner and Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren, immigration lawyer Marisa DeFranco, and corporate lawyer James Coyne King. Each of the candidates lists what they believe are the most important issues in this race on their campaign websites: Scott Brown on the issues; Elizabeth Warren on the issues; Marisa DeFranco on the issues; James Coyne King on the issues. But we want to know what you think is the most …
