A Fantasy Football website is petitioning the government to make the day a holiday in an effort to boost national camaraderie.
Should the day after the Super Bowl be a recognized holiday in the United States? A group of sports fans and concerned citizens seems to think so, and has gone as far as to file a petition with WhiteHouse.gov petitions, according to a recent post on AOL Jobs. The petition argues that about 111 million Americans watched the Super Bowl in 2012, thus making it the most-viewed broadcast in history, according to the post. As such, the group involved - Fantasy Football site 4for4.com - claims that if the Monday after the game were deemed a national holiday, the streets would be safer and the workplace would be more productive on the following Tuesday. The star quarterback thanked season ticket holders for their support through a recorded phone message this week.
While many Patriots fans are spending Super Bowl week disappointed the team won’t be taking the field Sunday in New Orleans, some are in higher spirits after receiving an unexpected message from the face of the franchise. Season ticket holders were surprised this week with a recorded phone message from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady thanking them for their support this season. Super Bowl Sunday is also a favorite day for a group of dogs up for adoption. The annual Puppy Bowl will air at 3 p.m. on Animal Planet.
Super Bowl XLVII may be coming this Sunday, Feb. 3, but for those families with pets who aren't as interested in watching the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens go head-to-head, there's another sporting event to enjoy. Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl IX will also take place on Sunday, and feature more than 30 dogs, each available for adoption. New this year, too, will be a group of hedgehogs to cheer on the pups. The Puppy Bowl begins at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, and in celebration of the animal-themed event, we're asking Patch readers to submit photos of their pets.
