UPDATE (Saturday, 8 p.m.) - The Patriots were busy on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, selecting TCU wide receiver Josh Boyce in the fourth round and adding two more defensive players in the seventh round Saturday. The Pats also traded a seventh round (229th overall) and running back/returner/US Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for running back LeGarrette Blount. Tampa Bay later traded that pick to the Minnesota Vikings, who selected defensive tackle Everett Dawkins. With the 226th overall pick in the draft, the Patriots chose Illinois defensive end Michael Buchanan. In just 72 hours, fans meet Kraft family's challenge to raise $100,000 for victims of the Boston Marathon victims.
One day after the tragic attacks on the Boston Marathon, the Kraft family pledged to match the first $100,000 raised through donations to their charitable foundation for The One Fund Boston to aid hundreds of victims most affected by the bombings. Less than three days later, contributions by New England Patriots and New England Revolution fans exceeded that total. Employees of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and other Kraft Group entities stood on the Gillette Stadium turf and spelled out “1 Boston” following Monday’s moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. for the victims of last week’s tragedy.
As communities across Massachusetts paused on Monday for a moment of silence to remember the victims of last week’s attacks on the Boston Marathon, roughly 300 Kraft employees gathered on the turf of Gillette Stadium to collectively observe the solemn occasion. The New England Patriots will have three Sunday night games, one Monday night game and one Thursday night game in 2013.
The New England Patriots will be opening up the regular season at the Buffalo Bills, Sept. 8, in a 1 p.m. game. The Patriots will have one Thursday night game against the New York Jets, Sept. 12 at Gillette Stadium and there will be one Monday night game at Carolina, Monday, Nov. 18. New England will be a familar site on the NBC Sunday Night game, playing at Atlanta, Sept. 29, home against the Denver Broncos, Nov. 24, and at Baltimore, Sunday, Dec. 22. Vince Wilfork and his wife, Bianca have set up a fund to raise money for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.
They say home is where the heart is and for almost a decade, Vince Wilfork’s has been in New England. On Monday, that home was under attack. “Praying for Boston,” Wilfork said via his Twitter handle (@wilfork75) Monday night in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings that have killed at least three and injured over 170 more. “This is my home going on 10 years. I feel the pain in my heart.” Wilfork, known in Foxborough and the surrounding area for his philanthropy work as much as his play on the field with the New England Patriots, has established a donation fund for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings through his foundation, The Vince Wilfork Foundation. Foxborough resident and New England Patriots cheerleader finalist Lauren Morahan didn't make the final cut for the 25-member squad.
After a six-week audition process, the New England Patriots Cheerleaders have chosen their squad for the 2013 season. But Foxborough resident Lauren Morahan won’t be one of them. Morahan, 25, was among the 36 finalists to participate in the annual Patriots Cheerleaders Boot Camp – the final phase of the audition process. Morahan graduated from Foxborough High School in 2005 and has worked as a Boston Bruins Ice Girl. Morahan made it through the preliminary auditions in March when approximately 320 applications were submitted at open auditions, among the highest turnouts in team history. Current and former Patriots players will instruct youth ages 6-14 in free football clinic in Newtown, Conn. as part of a Patriots-themed activity day open to the public to honor the community and Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The Kraft family, New England Patriots Charitable Foundation (NEPCF) and the New England Patriots Alumni Club (NEPAC) will bring their signature “Football for YOU” one-day free youth clinic to Newtown, Conn. on May 18.
