UPDATE: Patriots Load Up on Defense, Wide Receivers at NFL Draft

Track the New England Patriots 2013 NFL Draft picks.

UPDATE (Saturday, 8 p.m.) - The Patriots were busy on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, selecting TCU wide receiver Josh Boyce in the fourth round and adding two more defensive players in the seventh round Saturday.  The Pats also traded a seventh round (229th overall) and running back/returner/US Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for running back LeGarrette Blount. Tampa Bay later traded that pick to the Minnesota Vikings, who selected defensive tackle Everett Dawkins.  With the 226th overall pick in the draft, the Patriots chose Illinois defensive end Michael Buchanan. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive end is "an extremely lean edge defender that needs to get bigger and stronger," according to NFL.com. "He flashes violent …

PHOTOS: Belichick, Patriots ‘Watertown Strong’ on Draft Night

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick donned a Watertown Police hoodie – cut at the sleeves - to his NFL Draft press conference Friday night.

Kraft employees have stood as “1 Boston” for those affected by the Marathon bombings and now the New England Patriots have shown they’re “Watertown Strong,” saluting those who answered the call in the massive search for the two bombing suspects last week. On Friday, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick wore a special Watertown Police Department hoodie and a Boston Strong ribbon to his press conference following day two of the NFL Draft, where the Pats selected four players in rounds two and three. Asked why Belichick was wearing the customized hoodie – cutoff sleeves and all – the coach said, “to support the Watertown Police.” “That was an unbelievable job they did,” Belichick said. “I’m sure we all followed it, followed as closely as we …

NFL Draft: Patriots Look to Round 2 after Busy Day (Poll)

New England Patriots have two picks left in the draft after drafting Jones, Hightower.

The New England Patriots took a big step in addressing their pass rush in the first round of the draft Thursday night. Bucking his usual modus operandi, Bill Belichick moved up twice in the round, grabbing Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones at pick 21 and Alabama inside linebacker Dont'a Hightower at 25. Jones is a bit undersized as a lineman, and may project as an outside linebacker/defensive end in the Patriots' system. Hightower has drawn comparisons to current Pats linebacker Brandon Spikes, and word is he'll take a lot of work from Rob Ninkovich. With two picks remaining in the second round (and in the rest of the draft, for that matter), the Patriots may choose to address their remaining sore spot, the secondary. The elite corners…
