Wrentham's Palioca, Wheaton College Baseball in NCAA Division 3 Tournament

The No. 2 seeded Wheaton College Lyons will play Salem State in the regional opener.

Former King Philip standout Alec Palioca and the Wheaton College baseball team earned No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament. The Lyons will play Salem State  Wednesday in the regional opener at Harwich's Whitehouse Field. Second-seeded Wheaton is ranked no.15 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, will make its 12th  appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in program history. A Wrentham native, Palioca is a two-time NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year and ranks second in wins (6) and games started (9) in the conference, third in strikeouts (51) and shutouts (1) and 11th in earned run average (2.52). Palioca averaged 8.55 strikeouts per game, a 3.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio and held opponents to a .230 batting average …

Local Talent Fuels Bridgewater State Football Team

King Philip's Matt Monahan is a captain for Bridgewater State University football team, who will be playing in the NCAA Division 3 tournament Saturday.

  For the first time since the 2000 season, the Bridgewater State football will be playing in the NCAA Division 3 tournament. The Bears earned an at-large spot after finishing with 9-1 record and will be playing Widener University, Saturday at noon in Chester, PA. King Philip's Matt Monahan is a senior captain wide-receiver and has scored two touchdowns on 18 catches for 227-yards, while Mike Viola has made an immediate impact as a freshman wide-receiver with four catches for 51 yards. Stoughton's Matt Green, a junior wide-receiver, is having a big year with 26 catches for 434-yards and six touchdowns.
