Despite a strong first half, the Warriors fell 15-8 to Mansfield.
Though a quarter and a half of play and tied 5-5, it appeared the Mansfield Hornets and King Philip Warriors were in for a shootout. The Hornets, however, cracked down on defense and pulled away for a 15-8 win over the Warriors. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 3-10. Two quick goals from Conor Finerty and Mike Barressi put the Hornets up 2-0 early in the first quarter but the Warriors would use possession to get the lead by the end of the quarter. Chris White started things for King Philip with a 10 yard shot followed by a wraparound wide angle goal by Jack Riley to tie the game 2-2 about halfway through the quarter. Trailing 3-2 going into the second quarter, Finerty and Barressi struck again to give the Hornets a 4-3 lead with 10:43 …

Despite a three goal deficit in the second half, the Warriors came back to beat the Hornets 11-10.
With a little under 10 minutes to play, the Mansfield High girls' lacrosse team were in the driver's seat with a three goal lead over the King Philip Warriors during a game where both teams were fortunate to be ahead at all. As fast as Mansfield got the momentum, it quickly went back to the Warriors as KP ended the game on a 4 goal run to win 11-10 against their Hockomock League foe. Despite an early 2-0 lead by KP, goals from Lauren Beecher (two goals), Jessica Buckley (two goals), and a pair from Meghan Delang (four goals) helped the Hornets climb back to tie the game at 4-4 with 8:59 left in the first half. Thirty seconds later, a goal from Beecher from about five yards away gave Mansfield their first lead at 5-4 but Jennifer Lacroix (…

Titles were won and records fell as the Warriors had a successful athletics campaign during 2012.
In 2012, the King Philip Warriors' success in athletics continued as student-athletes from KP won state titles, broke state records, earned national recognition, and even committed to play sports at Division 1 schools. With the year coming to an end, Wrentham Patch looks back, in no particular order, at 10 of the best moments from the KP Warriors this year. 1. Jake Layman goes to Brazil and Maryland After his high school career ended in March, KP basketball standout and current Maryland freshman Jake Layman had one more assignment before college. Getting picked to represent the United States at the FIBA Americas U-18 tournament in Brazil, the Wrentham resident had the chance to play for Florida Gators men's basketball coach Billy …

The Hornets beat the boys' team 69-45 and the girls' team 39-27.
Mansfield girls basketball beat King Philip, 39-27, on Friday in a game decided entirely by the second half. “I think [Mansfield] did some nice adjustments defensively,” KP head coach Sean McInnis said. “Our defense leads to our offense, and I thought they did a nice job rotating against our press, but we really struggled getting some steals and some open shots.” The first quarter only saw a total of 12 points from both teams, with the Warriors in the lead 7-5. “They were getting a lot of second chances underneath the net going to the boards very hard,” Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said. “That’s how [King Philip] got a lot of their points in the first half.” Mansfield came back fighting in the second quarter to trail by two at 19-17, …

This week, Rep. Winslow delivered 10 jars of Fluff to the Patrick Administration, a Southwick man was arrested for a hit and run on Route 1 after Monday's Patriots game, and some KP students gave Roxbury elementary students some holiday cheer.
Rep. Winslow Delivers Fluff and Top 10 List to Save Local Aid When Governor Deval Patrick announced his plan to cut local aid as part of an effort to close a projected $540 million budget deficit, State Representative Dan Winslow (Norfolk-R) was quick to suggest that the governor go after the “fluff” before going after local aid. In a response to the Patrick Administration's statement that there was no fluff in the budget and to create a dialogue to find an alternative solution, Rep. Winslow delivered a pyramid of 10 containers of Marshmallow Fluff and 10 examples of fluff to cut to the Executive Office of Administration and Finance. Each of the 10 proposed ways to help cut the deficit was attached to a tub of Fluff in a Christmas card …

Erich Ryan led the way for King Philip with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jimmy Layman and Michael Pergola also had 10 points.
A Foxborough controlled affair for most of the game, King Philip struggled in their first league contest of the season, falling to Foxborough 55-42. Foxborough jumped out to a quick lead early in the first quarter behind six points from Nick Ditullio. Justin Zupanick and Cam Seeley also scored five points to help Foxborough jump out to a 18-9 lead after the first quarter. Showing discipline, Foxborough waited for their chances to drive to the basket instead of restoring to the three like they did last year. "That was a key going into the offseason. We talked about last year's team we just kinda chucked threes and hoped for the best," Foxborough head coach C.J. Neely said. "I thought we were on patience on offense for the most part." King …

The Warriors made an improbable comeback Wednesday night with a 72-67 double overtime victory against Weston.
Down 21 to the Weston Wildcats with less that three minutes to go in the third quarter, it would of come to no surprise if a young King Philip girls’ basketball team with nine freshmen and sophomores on the 14 person roster simply packed it in for the night. Yet, with seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the Warriors found themselves with a chance to push the game to overtime and eventually win 72-67 in a double overtime thriller at King Philip High School. Despite ending the first quarter down by only one, an open lane to the basket and foul trouble allowed Weston to build their lead at the free thrown line and under the hoop. Unable to work the ball down low on offense, the Warriors struggled to hang with the Wildcats as Weston took a 32…

It was a busy day for the KP Warriors as two teams took part in championship contests.
One year ago, the KP volleyball team struggled to find wins as they sat at home with the start of the MIAA Central-East Division 1 tournament. This year, the girls turned some heads with a run to the sectional finals. While the team was unable to beat Newton North, the team still had plenty to be proud of during a season of unexpected accomplishments. “I told the girls we have look at our whole season. Nobody thought we would get this far. We’re really a young program and really proud of our girls,” KP head coach Tim Layman said. Despite starting the first set 4-4, the Tigers quickly gained the momentum needed to win the first set 25-9. Later in the second set, the Warriors kept it close again early on, taking a 5-3 lead a one point, but…
