A new report shows that King Philip High School will see a steady increase in it's enrollment numbers though 2015. KP Middle School and the surrounding elementary school districts are expected to see a decrease over the same period.
With high enrollment numbers being an issue at King Philip Regional High School, a new report shows no signs of a significant decrease for at least the next 3-5 years. While projections showed that there would be fewer than 1,300 students at KP High School, preliminary figures as of October 1 found there were 40 more students than actually projected, bringing the total students to 1,315. Currently, the high school has 1,254 students, a difference of 61 students from October 1, 2011. Now experience the same enrollment bubble that went though King Philip Middle School recently, the high school is expected to be above 1,300 students for the foreseeable future. Projections have the school losing seven students over the next two years before …

Joe Johnston led the way with 173 yards rushing and a touchdown as the Warriors improved to 4-0
For those looking for some good old fashion football, last night’s game between the King Philip Warriors and Dartmouth Indians was the place to be. With a slippery ball and a muddy field making it tough to go to the outside, both teams resorted to trying to grind the ball up the middle during KP’s (4-0) 20-7 win over the Indians. “Any win’s a good win, you’re going up against a physical team out there and some tough conditions,” King Philip head coach Brian Lee said. “We got a lead and we just tried to protect it.” The Warriors got on the board first on one of the few passing plays of the game. A six yard pass from John Dillon to Ryan Dunn gave the Warriors the first score of the game after a drive lasting almost half of the first quarter…

Andrew Allen scores on a header of a cross from Conor Chipman to give the Warriors their first win of the year.
After having trouble keeping leads and giving up last minute goals, the King Philip boys’ soccer team finally picked up a 1-0 win, weathering a last minute rush from the Attleboro Blue Bombardiers. “I was really proud of the consistency and the fact that they started and finished the same way. They really pressured in the midfield and actually knocked the ball around a little bit and played soccer,” King Philip head coach Kip Lewis said. After a scoreless first half, Conor Chipman quickly beat the defense down the right flank to get off a cross to Andrew Allen for the goal ahead goal in the 42nd minute of play. “He (Chipman) was really pushing himself to get involved in the game and when he gets involved in the game he’s a good player so …

District studied hiring process after job offer to accused felon.
The King Philip School Committee spoke Monday night about changes to the district's hiring policy. The conversation was spurred earlier this year after the district offered a coaching position to someone accused of a felony in Florida. District Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said parents consulted about the matter emphasized the importance of more extensive background checks. She said the school's current checks are for in-state records. "CORI in Massachusetts still only gives Massachusetts backgrounds," she said. "The question is: how much further do you want to go?" Zielinski asked the committee whether it would want extended background checks on the teaching staff, the coaching staff or all the district's volunteers. "We have a lot …

King Philip School District continues search for high school principal.
The King Philip School District has received about 40 applications for the high school principal job, Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said Monday night. The superintendent, speaking at the King Philip School Committee meeting, said efforts toward finding a new principal continue. Zielinski said she had sent a letter to parents asking for volunteers for a search committee. "If we put everyone [who responded] on, we may have a search committee of 60 people," she said. "We got feedback from all three towns." Zielinski said she was hoping to hire a principal by the second week of June, and will create a schedule to accomodate that goal. "There needs to be a transition time between Rob [Wargo, the current principal] and the new person," she …
