Four King Philip Students Charged after K-9 Search

KP students charged after search of the school.

After a random elicit substance search at King Philip High School Monday, four students have been found in possession. According to the Sun Chronicle, K-9 units performed a search of the area with 11 local police departments. Drug sniffing dogs helped to find four instances of illegal substances. The K-9 units and officers patrolled the parking lots, classrooms, lockers and hallways as the student body was locked down in their classrooms. Students will be charged in juvenile court. Many towns in the area, including Mansfield, take part in such searches. Mansfield had two citations after the search last year and Foxborough had eight infractions in 2009.

Obituary: Evelyn M. Howe

Ms. Evelyn M. Howe was a graduate of King Philip High School.

  (RJ Ross Funeral Home) Evelyn M. Howe, 46, of Gloucester, and a former Norfolk resident died suddenly on May 5, 2013 the victim of an accidental drowning. Born In Boston on April 21, 1967, she was the beloved daughter of the late Walter R. Howe, and of Charles and Susan Brindley of Norfolk. She was a graduate of King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham and had attended Clark University.  Evelyn has been employed as a Technical Account Manager for Harbor Networks in Framingham, and has lived in Gloucester for the last three years.  She loved to help people and was always generous of heart.  Even while vacationing she would find great causes that she could lend support to.  Once while vacationing in Belize, she found a local animal …

Former King Philip Standout Ross Stars in Net for Bridgewater State

Freshman Chandler Ross of Wrentham stands out in net for the Bridgewater State women's lacrosse team.

Led by tournament MVP Taylor Clancy (Braintree), the Bridgewater State University Bears captured the inaugural Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship as the top-seeded Bears downed second-seeded Westfield State University, 13-10, on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field. BSU netminder Chandler Ross (Wrentham) turned aside six shots to record her 13th win of the season.  Olivia Galvin (Mashpee) led the Bears' defensive effort with five caused turnovers. In the regular season, Ross, a freshman, made 15 starts, stopping 88 shots in 226 attempts for the Bears.

Newsweek Top-Rated School List Leaves Off King Philip High School

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

Newsweek has ranked high schools nationally, but the criteria the publication used left King Philip High School off of the list. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. SADD Walk of Tears Set for May 19

The annual SADD Walk of Tears will be held at King Philip High School May 19.

The Annual SADD Walk of Tears in loving memory of Maura Howard, a graduate of King Philip High School and Amy Callaghan of Franklin High School, both victims of drunk driving, will take place at King Philip Regional High School on Sunday, May 19.  Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. start in front of the main entrance. The SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will fund scholarships at both King Philip and Franklin High Schools.  The walk is approximately three miles and there will be refreshments and water available. The event will be held rain or shine.

King Philip Teacher Appreciation Day Coming Up in Wrentham

Teacher Appreciation Day coming up May 3.

The King Philip High School will be hosting their annual Staff Appreciation Day May 3. The event is hosted by the KP Parents’ Network, and is designed to thank teachers and staff for their service and work in the school. The event, held on a half-day, will see a luncheon in the school cafeteria for all KP staff. It will also feature a raffle for the staff. The Parents’ Network has called for volunteers to help with preparations, as well as food, beverages, paper goods donations, gift cards for supplies as well as prizes for raffle drawings. King Philip HS 2013 Scholar Athlete Awards Announced

Brianna Abbott and Matt Nicholson awarded Hockomock League Scholar-Athletic honors.

The King Philip High School has chosen two students for the 2013 Scholar Athlete Awards. Brianna Abbott and Matt Nicholson were chosen for the honor, and the Hockomock League Induction Ceremony at Lake Pearl Luciano’s in Wrentham, May 9. Abbott is ranked in the top five females academically in the senior class and is a top three ranked athlete. She was named captain of the spring track team and participated in winter track and basketball as well. She is the treasurer of the senior class, a member of the student council and a board member of the LEO Club. Nicholson was ranked in the top 10 males of the senior class and is a top five athlete. He participated in soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis and cross-country. He is also a member of …
