Hockomock Football Recap: Thanksgiving Upsets, Comebacks, Blowouts and Nail-Biters

A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.

If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Second Half Brilliance Lead King Philip Football Over Franklin on Thanksgiving

After trailing 6-0 at halftime, King Philip came back to beat Franklin 20-13 on Thanksgiving.

With the league title decided going into Thanksgiving, it would have been easy for both Franklin and King Philip to walk it in. Yet with pride on the line, both football teams fought to the end in one of the closer games between the two rivals. Despite a tough first half, the KP Warriors came back to defeat the Franklin Panthers, 20-13, in Franklin. Franklin got on the board first with a quick score on the opening drive. Getting down to the KP three-yard line, Kyle Finamore punched it in to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. On the next drive, the Warriors struggled to get anything going on offense. KP quarterback John Dillon threw the first of his two interceptions on the opening drive, both to Brandon Escher. Despite …

King Philip, Franklin Thanksgiving Day Football Through the Years

The King Philip High football team will be hosting Franklin Thursday in the annual Thanksgiving Day football game.

With the Hockomock League's Kelley-Rex Division already decided in Mansfield's favor, King Philip and Franklin High football teams won't be playing for the title when they meet Thanksgiving in Wrentham at 10 a.m. There is still, though, the matter of pride and bragging rights on the line in the 53rd meeting between the two neighbors. Franklin is going into the game with a 31-20-1 record over the Warriors. KP, though, has won the last two games in the series and their seniors will be looking to finish their career with a sweep of the Panthers. The Warriors will be looking for their 10th win of the year as they are bringing a 9-1 overall record and a 3-1 league record, only losing to Mansfield. Franklin is 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the Kelley…

Freshmen Kicker Locks up King Philip Football Win Over North Attleboro

The Warriors beat the Red Rocketeers 16-14 last night at Community Field.

With some one of the best players in the Hockomock League on the field, it’s ironic that the game would come down to a freshman kicker. With the game on the line, 15 year old Derek Roschlein quickly became the hero for King Philip as the Warriors beat the North Attleboro Red Rocketeers, 16-14, at Community Field in North Attleboro. North Attleboro came out strong in the first quarter with a five play, 63-yard drive that was capped off with an Alex Jette touchdown reception early in the first quarter. Despite the score and a stalled drive that followed, the Warriors didn’t seem fazed by the North Attleboro drive which was unfamiliar to a team use to stopping their opponents. “We talked a lot about not being shocked when a great team makes a…
