The Warriors' held on to a 3-0 lead going into fifth inning but the Lancers prevail with a two run win.
In the end, it came down to that bottom of the fifth inning. Up 3-0, the KP Warriors (7-13) were only nine outs away from ending their season with a win, but hits and error were their undoing. By the time the inning was over, the Norton Lancers (9-10) led 5-3, which was enough to keep their playoff hopes alive. “That’s the big one that you can obviously point to. We got lackadaisical offensively in the third and fourth after thet got the three run lead,” King Philip head coach Ed Moran said. “We need to keep pouring it on so if something like that happens we have a cushion.” Things looked well initially for the Warriors, when a rattled Lancers pitcher, Brian DiOrio, gave up a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning to allow …

Cam Walsh went 2-3 with one run scored as Warriors fall, 5-2.
Sometimes playing at home dosen’t give you the advantage. Unfortunately, the lack of a fence at their home field could have cost the Warriors a couple of runs in their 5-2 loss to the Franklin Panthers. “Obviously, when they [Franklin] took the lead, they were able to have their outfielders play deeper then they would if there was a fence to not get burnt with the long ball,” KP head coach Ed Mora said. “[With] a fenced-in field, we might have a couple of home runs and a different game, but that’s not where we’re playing.” The Panthers struck first in the top of the third inning, as Joe Palazini was able to score from third during a double play attempt that left Bryan Abbott out at second but batter Brandon Eccher safe at first. After a 1-…

Mistakes allow Norwood to leave town with a 9-5 victory
It was a contest with two teams going in opposite directions. Norwood was making a push to get back to .500, while King Philip was coming in on a two game losing streak after opening the season with three wins. When all was said and done, both teams walked off the field with identical 3-3 records as the Mustangs defeated the Warriors 9-5 in Wrentham. Things looked as though King Philip was going to break its two-game skid, as the home team batted around in the second inning, putting up four runs on three hits, a walk and a hit batsman. With two outs and a Brian Crafton on first via a walk, the Warriors got back-to-back singles off the bats off Nick Malatesta and Michael Murray to load the bases. Gavin Adams pushed across the first KP run …

Warriors hoping to improve upon last year's 8-12 record.
Last spring, the King Philip baseball team opened the season with only two returning starters. The inexperience showed, as the Warriors went 8-12 and missed qualifying for the state tournament. KP is hoping to improve upon their sub-.500 record and make it into the tournament this season, but playing in the Hockomock League won't make that easy. “The Hockomock is a very hard league to compete in. With teams like Franklin, Attleboro, North Attleboro and Mansfield — not to mention Oliver Ames on the other side — there are no days off,” KP Coach Ed Moran said. “If that wasn’t enough, we have some quality non-league teams in Norton and Norwood. If we make it to the Division 2 Tournament, we’ll definitely be battle tested.” If the Warriors are …
