The Hornets beat the boys' team 69-45 and the girls' team 39-27.
Mansfield girls basketball beat King Philip, 39-27, on Friday in a game decided entirely by the second half. “I think [Mansfield] did some nice adjustments defensively,” KP head coach Sean McInnis said. “Our defense leads to our offense, and I thought they did a nice job rotating against our press, but we really struggled getting some steals and some open shots.” The first quarter only saw a total of 12 points from both teams, with the Warriors in the lead 7-5. “They were getting a lot of second chances underneath the net going to the boards very hard,” Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said. “That’s how [King Philip] got a lot of their points in the first half.” Mansfield came back fighting in the second quarter to trail by two at 19-17, …

The Warriors made an improbable comeback Wednesday night with a 72-67 double overtime victory against Weston.
Down 21 to the Weston Wildcats with less that three minutes to go in the third quarter, it would of come to no surprise if a young King Philip girls’ basketball team with nine freshmen and sophomores on the 14 person roster simply packed it in for the night. Yet, with seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the Warriors found themselves with a chance to push the game to overtime and eventually win 72-67 in a double overtime thriller at King Philip High School. Despite ending the first quarter down by only one, an open lane to the basket and foul trouble allowed Weston to build their lead at the free thrown line and under the hoop. Unable to work the ball down low on offense, the Warriors struggled to hang with the Wildcats as Weston took a 32…

After trailing 6-0 at halftime, King Philip came back to beat Franklin 20-13 on Thanksgiving.
With the league title decided going into Thanksgiving, it would have been easy for both Franklin and King Philip to walk it in. Yet with pride on the line, both football teams fought to the end in one of the closer games between the two rivals. Despite a tough first half, the KP Warriors came back to defeat the Franklin Panthers, 20-13, in Franklin. Franklin got on the board first with a quick score on the opening drive. Getting down to the KP three-yard line, Kyle Finamore punched it in to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. On the next drive, the Warriors struggled to get anything going on offense. KP quarterback John Dillon threw the first of his two interceptions on the opening drive, both to Brandon Escher. Despite …

A recap of Week 10 football action in the Hockomock League.
Turns out Thanksgiving football in the Hockomock League will just be for pride and bragging rights this year - both of the league's playoff berths were sewn up by the end of week 10. Mansfield (7-3), a perennial playoff threat, clinched the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex (large schools) Division with a 28-21 win against visiting Franklin this past Saturday evening. Mansfield improved to 4-1 in the division, assuring the Hornets of at least a tie with King Philip, who is 3-1 heading into Thanksgiving. But, Mansfield has the head-to-head tiebreak, beating KP 46-33 on Oct. 20. And, Sharon (8-2), just two years removed from a 1-9-1 season, made history Saturday afternoon, clinching the Hockomock League's Davenport (small schools) Division with a…

With a 1-1 draw vs. rival Franklin, the Warriors now need a win at Taunton on Friday to make the MIAA tournament.
After a slow start to the season, the KP Warriors boys' soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-1 tie over rival Franklin. KP now stands at 5-5-6 with 16 points. While a win would of left the Warriors only needing a tie to qualify for the postseason, their Senior Night draw does keep them alive with one more win clinching a tournament spot. KP took the lead during the 13th minute when a free kick from Aaron Morrissette to Jonathan Keys led to a goal after Keys was able to head the ball into the goal from inside the penalty area off the set piece. Later in the second half, the Panthers got on the board with a penalty kick from Zach Scafati in the 53rd minute. Despite a couple of attacks from KP, the Warriors were …

Despite four touchdowns from John Dillion, the Warriors fell to the Mansfield Hornets 46-33.
The Mansfield Hornets took control of their destiny in the battle for the Kelley-Rex Division Championship Saturday night with an important divisional win over the King Philip Warriors. Refusing to let the Warriors gain any sort of momentum during the game, the Hornets made a statement with a 46-33 win. "We’re kind of finding out identity a little bit; we’re turning the corner and getting more consistent,” Mansfield head coach Mike Reading said. Bad luck plagued the Warriors early in the first quarter as a pass from QB John Dillon (261yds passing, 4 TDs) found it’s way into the hands of Mansfield’s Mike Cunningham at the KP 31 yard line. Despite getting the ball back on a fumble recovery only a play later, the Warriors were forced to punt …

Joe Johnston had 103 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Warriors as they beat Sharon 43-0.
Up 14-0 at the half, King Philip Warriors’ game against the Sharon Eagles was not quite over yet. Facing a similar situation last week against Canton, the Eagles came back to beat the Bulldogs in overtime. On this night however, the Eagles were out of it two KP drives later to put the Warriors were up 27-0 late in the third quarter thanks to a dominating running game and well performing defense that held the Sharon offence to under 30 yards. By the time it was over, the Warriors had won 43-0 and improved to 6-0 overall. The Eagles suffered their first loss of the year and now stand at 5-1. Early in the first quarter, the Warriors chose to take a chance and go for it on fourth and one at the Sharon 10 yard line. After converting on a Joe …
