Also see how some of Wrentham's residents are voting and why.
The 2013 town and state primary elections are taking place today in Wrentham, and town clerk Carol Mollica said turnout is, so far, fairly low. “It’s been kind of slow, not to bad,” she said. As of noon., there were 1160 ballots with approximately 578 voters, which is about 7.5 percent of the town’s eligible voters. She added it’s a pretty accurate estimation at this point, since most residents have voted in both elections. “Just about everyone took two ballots, I think only two people so far didn’t,” she said. “I think it’s pretty close.” This year, Geroge Smith has thrown his hat in the ring again against either Gail Pratt or Joseph Botaish. Currently, there are two seats available with Smith running against the incumbents. Resident Greg…

Winslow said in his closing statement, referring U.S. Congressmen Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch. Winslow, former US attorney Michael J. Sullivan, and former Navy SEAL Gabriel E. Gomez discussed a wide-range of issues in the hour-long debate, including Roe vs. Wade, gun control, immigration, social security, and the economy. Representative Daniel Winslow (R-Norfolk) and his fellow legislators in support of Go Red for Women Feb. 6 at the Massachusetts State House. Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s campaign to raise awareness among women about heart disease, which kills one woman a minute. More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, the killer isn’t as easy to see. Heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood. The event featured remarks by Senator and Representative, co-chairs of the Caucus of Women Legislators, Senator Candaras (D-Wilbraham) and Representative Balser (D-Newton), Senate President Murray (D-Plymouth) and Speaker DeLeo (D-Winthrop) American Heart Association volunteers, Dr. Reene …

With local Republicans still scrambling to find someone to run in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry’s appointment to Secretary of State, we do have some other contenders who have jumped into the fray. On Monday, Beverly Libertarian Daniel Fishman announced he would attempt to get on the ballot for the U.S. Senate special election. Fishman garnered more than 16,000 votes in the 6th Congressional District election last fall finishing third behind Congressman John Tierney and Republican candidate Richard Tisei. "The thing I became most aware of on the campaign trail is that there is a large group of citizens in Massachusetts who are not being represented by the Democratic machine, which elects favorite sons time …

Sen. Scott Brown has endorsed State Rep. Dan Winslow's power outage rebate bill.
State Rep. Daniel Winslow (R-Norfolk) is getting attention for a bill he proposed that would require utility companies to provide rebates for long power outages. Winslow said he proposed the bill after the outages caused by Tropical Storm Irene. "It would require the utilities to rebate customers two days for every one day where they went more than eight hours without power," he said. "The utilities are a monopoly — they're not subject to competitive pressures." He said this bill would incentivize companies to aggressively trim tree limbs and upgrade their power stations. Winslow pointed to the town of Princeton, Mass. as an example. He said Princeton's municipal electrical department worked aggressively after Irene devastated its lines, …
