If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: area big-box retailers are gearing up to dazzle bargain hunters even earlier this year—starting on Thanksgiving Day! While we'll look at the big-box retailers today, check out Patch tomorrow morning for a special on Midnight Madness at Wrentham Village Premium Outlets. Last week, Wal-Mart announced that it would open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22 and offer holiday doorbusters while supplies last. Blue laws prohibit retailers from opening before midnight on Black Friday.
Black Friday is starting earlier than ever, as some national retailers have announced they will open the night of Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22. However, here in Massachusetts, state blue laws prohibit stores from opening until midnight, according to a report by the Boston Globe. Current blue laws prohibit retailers in the state from opening on Thanksgiving, thus preventing them from getting an early start on Black Friday sales, according to the Globe article. Some exceptions are restaurants, health care facilities and gas stations. Shopping season will kick off this month.
Retailers are bracing for the Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season. Merchants typically pick that day (and, to a lesser extent, the following weekend) to offer their most alluring deals. Consequently, area shops (like those in the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets) see huge crowds and traffic tie-ups. So, are the deals worth it? Will you be shopping this Black Friday?
