King Philip Track Team Brings Home First Place Finishers

The Mansfield girls' team win their first league title since 2011 while the boys had their 10 championship win streak snapped

In this case, it was the 11th time that wasnt the charm. After winning the Hockomock League Track and Field Championship Meet for 10 years in a row, the Hornets boys' track team did not come home with a first place trophy, finishing in second place behind a strong host North Attleboro team. With strong performances in the throws and jumps, the Red Rocketeers scored 150.5 points. Short by only 1.5 points, the Hornets placed second with 149 points and King Philip finished third with 77 points.  KP's Matthew Bowers had a big day in winning the triple jump at 45 feet, 10.50 inches, was second in the 200 meters and third in the long jump. Gonser and Weir Pick up Wins at Hockomock League Track and Field Championship Meet

Owen Gonser won the mile while Olivia Weir took the 800.

With the postseason for track and field underway, a few Warriors started championship season with wins at the Hockomock League Championship Meet. In the boys' mile, King Philip’s Owen Gonser led for most of the race en route to a 4:25.67 victory. Mansfield's Jimmy Murphy(4:26.87)  tried to make a run at Gonser towards the end of the race but fell just short in second place. Val Madonna-Lendvai (4:31.09) also finished fourth for the Hornets. Olivia Weir held off a challenge from Emily Newman in the first half of the 800 to win the half-mile in 2:21.44. Mansfield's Lindsay Goulet (2:26.19) finished second and Newman (2:26.31) placed third. Sophomore Abby Seaberg (5:15.53) defeated defending champion Liz Holmes (5:19.11) in the mile, using a …

Boston Marathon Runners Invited to Finish Race Next Year

The Boston Athletic Association has invited more than 5,000 runners to take to the course again next year.

The Boston Athletic Association announced Thursday runners who were unable to finish the 2013 Boston Marathon after two bombs exploded near the finish line on Boylston Street just over one month ago are being invited back to the starting line. "The opportunity to run down Boylston Street and to cross the finish line amid thousands of spectators is a significant part of the entire Boston Marathon experience," Tom Grilk, B.A.A. Executive Director, said. According to the B.A.A. there are 5,633 runners that started the race and made it past halfway who have been invited back for the race next year on April 21. "We want to thank our participants for their patience as we continue to work through the details of arranging this accommodation for …

King Philip Softball Team Trounces Attleboro

Warriors defeated Attleboro 5-0, Monday for their 15th win of the season.

The King Philip softball team trounced Attleboro, 5-0, at home Monday, taking advantage a strong offense effort. Led by new head coach Norm Beauchemin, the Warriors were able to strike early in the game, starting with a triple from Ashley Hussion to bring in Bel Shaffer. Hussion then walked home on a home run from Tori Constantin to bring KP up to 3-0 in the first inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, KP’s Shannon Jones knocked in Breanna Sebio to raise the lead to 4-0. A bases-loaded single from Shaffer brought in another run in the bottom of the sixth. Wrentham's Palioca, Wheaton College Baseball in NCAA Division 3 Tournament

The No. 2 seeded Wheaton College Lyons will play Salem State in the regional opener.

Former King Philip standout Alec Palioca and the Wheaton College baseball team earned No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament. The Lyons will play Salem State  Wednesday in the regional opener at Harwich's Whitehouse Field. Second-seeded Wheaton is ranked no.15 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, will make its 12th  appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in program history. A Wrentham native, Palioca is a two-time NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year and ranks second in wins (6) and games started (9) in the conference, third in strikeouts (51) and shutouts (1) and 11th in earned run average (2.52). Palioca averaged 8.55 strikeouts per game, a 3.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio and held opponents to a .230 batting average …

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Ryan Mallet and punter Zoltan Mesko held a youth football clinic for 150 high school students with disabilities this week at Harvard University.

The New England Patriots teamed up with AccessSportAmerica this week to participate in a football skills clinic for 150 high school students with disabilities. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick joined quarterback Ryan Mallet and punter Zoltan Mesko instructed the students at Harvard University’s Harvard Stadium on Wednesday, May 8. Belichick, Mallet and Mesko worked with members of the Harvard football team to assist with instruction at skill stations, such as throwing, catching and blocking. AccesSportAmerica is a national non-profit organization, which inspires higher function and fitness for children and adults living with disabilities through high-challenge sports and training.

The New England Patriots took the Texas Christian wide receiver with the 102nd pick in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

After using three of their first four draft picks on defense in the first three rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots chose to give quarterback Tom Brady another target to throw to with their first pick in the fourth round. The Patriots selected Texas Christian wide receiver Josh Boyce with the 102nd pick (fourth round) of the NFL Draft. Boyce is listed at 5-foot-11, 206 pounds and according to NFL.com, ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. “Josh had a good career at TCU,” said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. “Really top kid, strong, tough, fast. Wrentham's Palioca Earns Pitcher of the Year Honors at Wheaton College

Six Wheaton College baseball players were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's all-star team.

Six members of the Wheaton College baseball team, ranked no.15 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, were selected to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Team as voted upon by the league’s seven head coaches. Wrentham's Alec Palioca, who will be playing for the Brockton Rox this summer, was selected as the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season. He was automatically a first team all star. The former King Philip standout was second in wins (six), games started (nine), third in strikeouts (51) and shutouts (one) and 11th in earned run average (2.52). Palioca averaged 8.55 strikeouts per game, a 3.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio and held opponents to a .230 batting …
