6th Annual Hockomock Area YMCA Triathlon to be Held July 22

The Hockomock Area's YMCA Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, July 22 at Lake Pearl Luciano's in Wrentham. Race starts at 8 a.m. with registration beginning at 6 a.m.

Roughly 400 triathletes from the New England area are expected to participate in the sixth annual Hockomock Area YMCA Triathlon on Sunday, July 22 at Lake Pearl Luciano's in Wrentham.

said in a recent press release it is "proud to sponsor" this annual event with all proceeds benefiting the Reach Out to Youth and Families program at the Hockomock Area YMCA in Foxborough.

"In 2011, this event raised $10,000," the press release said. "The Hockomock Area YMCA’s goal is to ensure that everyone has access to learn, grow, and thrive through participation in programs, activities, and services at the Y."

In 2011, as an organization, the Hockomock Area YMCA provided $1.4 million in Scholarship and program subsidies to more than 15,000 children and families, according to the press release. These areas include LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, Healthy Futures, Integration Initiative, and Teen Centers and Programs, which includes child care, after school care, summer camp, etc.

The annual triathlon is designed to work for both beginners and advanced triathletes. Ages 14 and older are eligible to participate in the event. This event also welcomes para-athletes.

The race begins in a "park setting," according to the release and triathletes will enjoy "picturesque New England landscapes" through Wrentham center.

The bike and run portions provide moderate hills and the swim portion is completed in Lake Pearl. The grass transition area is centrally located and easily accessed.

"Each participant will enjoy roomy and secure space," the press release said.

Cost to pre-register for the event is $80 for individuals or $155 for relay teams. Online registration ends July 19. Those interested can also register by calling (508) 643-5225 until Saturday, July 21 at noon. You can register at www.imathlete.com

Day of registration begins at 6 a.m. and costs $85 for individuals and $160 for relay teams.

The race starts at 8 a.m. and consists of a 500-meter swim in Lake Pearl, a nine-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. All finishers will receive a medal and a performance shirt.  Top three finishers, male and female per category, will also be recognized with place medals.
