$3K Raised for Food Pantry at Stop & Shop

Plainville Stop & Shop raises $3,200 for the Wrentham Food Pantry.

The Plainville Stop & Shop and its customers raised $3,200 for the Wrentham Food Pantry as part of its "Food for Friends" program, the company announced on Wednesday.

The drive, which ran from late October through December, raised almost $2 million across the northeast. According to the company, 60 percent of that total will go to local food pantries, while the rest goes to regional food banks.

Contributions to the program came from numerous sources, including customer donations at registers, food and beverage company donations and a $500 per-store company match.

Jeff Picchioni, the manager of the Plainville store, said in a statement that he was pleased with the amount raised.

"Food for Friends is an easy way for the community to come together and give back, here at home," he said. "We are proud to have partnered with our customers and help provide meals to local families this winter."
