UPDATE: Sweatt Beach Has Been Reopened

With bacteria tests coming back as negative, the Recreation Department has reopened Sweatt Beach.

(Update 12:47 p.m.) - Sweatt Beach has repopened after tests show safe levels of bacteria in Lake Pearl according to Recreaction Director Jeff Plympton. Aside from the initial reading of high bacterial levels on July 2, all tests since have come back as negative and the water is safe to be in.

(Update 10:15 a.m.) - Recreaction Director Jeff Plympton says that it is unknown if Sweatt Beach will reopen today. Yesterday's test sample which was taken at 10 a.m. will not be ready until noon today at the earliest. We will have any more updates this afternoon concerning the opening of Sweatt Beach.

After a brief scare with high bacteria counts, Sweatt Beach at Lake Pearl is hoping to reopen at noon today.

On July 2, samples taken of the lake showed a high level of the E. coli bacteria but two samples taken of the lake's water during the week have come back negative according to Recreation Director Jeff Plympton.

There was one more sample taken on July 5 with the results expected the morning of the next day. As long as the results come back with safe numbers, then the beach will be reopened.
