Wrentham Righthander Changes to Brockton Rox

Former King Philip standout Alec Palioca has switched to pitch for the Brockton Rox this summer.

After starting the summer in the Cape Cod League, Wrentham's Alec Palioca is pitching for the Brockton Rox in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Palioca was signed as a temporary player by the Cotuit Kettleers as the Cape Cod team waited for players from other parts of the country to show. The righthander made one relief appearance, pitching a third of an inning.

Last summer, Palioca was one of the standout pitchers in FCBL last summer with the Torrington Titans, got 5-2 with a 1.07 earned run average, striking out 57 batters in 58.2 in nine starts. He only allowed 14 walks a year ago.

The Wheaton College righthander is now in the starting rotation for the Rox. In his first start of the year, Palioca went six innings in a 5-1 win over the North Shore Navigators, striking out three batters, only three hits and a walk.

The Rox dropped to 5-8 on the season after losing to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks Tuesday night. Brockton will be at historic Wahconah Park in Pittsfield tonight to play the Suns and will be back in Brockton Thursday to face North Shore in a 7:05 p.m. start.
