After sitting out the 2011 season after being released, former King Philip standout Lofu Tatupu signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons Saturday to play linebacker for them.

After sitting out the 2011 season, former King Philip standout Lofa Tatupu signed a contract to play linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons in 2012 on Saturday.

ESPN.com is reporting that it is a two-year deal for a maximum value of $5.75 million.

Tatupu was released by the Seattle Seahawks prior to the start of 2011 and wasn't able to hook on with another team until he signed with the Falcons Saturday.

After the Falcons' middle linebacker Chris Lofton declared for free agency, Atlanta had a spot available for the 6-0, 250-pound Tatupu, who was a three-time NFL Pro Bowler for Seattle.

Tatupu played in all 16 games for Seattle in the 2010 season, but had surgery on both his knees at the end of the season. He was also hurt in 2009, tearing a pectoral muscle, which caused him to miss most of the season

In high school, Tatupu starred for the Warriors at quarterback and linebacker. He then went to the University of Maine before transfering to the University of Southern California where he was a standout for the Trojans.
