The case for Maryland going to the tourney was their two victories over Duke, but, according to ESPN,  the Terrapins going  5-11 against top 150 teams in the country and playing a weak nonleague schedule hurt them in the eyes of the tournament selection committee.

Maryland is looking at a bid to the National Invitational Tournament. The Terrapins are 22-11 overall and 8-10 in the ACC.

Layman ended his freshman regular season by starting in 14 out of 33 ames, averaging 5.5 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game. He was also a 70-percent free throw shooter.
