UPDATED:Layman, Maryland Beat Niagara in N.I.T.

Former King Philip High standout Jake Layman and his University of Maryland teammates beat Niagara, 86-70. They will now play Denver Thursday night in the second round.

Freshman Jake Layman scored five points and grabbed four rebounds after starting at forward in the University of Maryland men's basketball team's 86-70 win over Niagara in the National Invitational Tournament Tuesday at home.

Maryland will now host Denver Thursday.

This was the Terrapins' first postseason game since 2010 when they went to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Maryland is 12-6 in the N.I.T. tournament over the years. The only time they played Niagara was in 1972 N.I.T where the Terrapins posted a 100-69 win in the championship game.
