KP Volleyball Defeats Foxborough

Excellent serving was the key to the victory as KP defeats Foxborough in three sets.

Last time the King Philip Warriors played Foxborough, it was a disaster of a game for KP. KP, which lost 3-0, had trouble doing almost anything against Foxborough.

“I remember having lots and lots of unforced errors that night,” said King Philip coach Cynthia Souza.

Looking for redemption in their Hockomock League crossover game against Foxborough, King Philip performed a complete 180 and defeated Foxboro 3-0 in the season finale for both teams.

Things looked rough for Foxborough from the beginning, as they fell 6-1 in the first set. Casey Norris started things off for King Philip with three straight aces and four total aces in the first set.

“We couldn’t return those serves,” Foxborough coach Dan Damish said.

Foxborough struggled throughout the first set, as they found it difficult playing without injured player Ashley Snyder. The junior outside hitter injured her ankle two days prior at Oliver Ames and ended her season prematurely.

“You can’t replace a kid like her. She never leaves the court and averages 4 1/2-5 kills a set,” said Damish.

King Philip took the opening set 25-8, to take an early 1-0 advantage over Foxborough.

Foxborough tried to come back in the second set, and they kept it close for the majority of the set. Neither team gained a lead beyond two points until near the end of the set. Foxborough had a chance to win, but King Philip rallied to end the set 25-19. The set showcased Foxborough's uneven play.

“We play in peaks and valleys. We should have won the second game,” Damish said.

King Philip put away Foxborough 25-11 to win the set and the match. Katie McEachern’s 5 consecutive aces from points 19-23 capped off the set.

“We decided we were really going to serve them tough tonight,” Souza said.

Julie Farabaugh led King Philip with seven kills. In addition to McEachern’s five straight aces were two additional aces and four kills. Casey Norris had five aces and three kills. Maslin Mellick had four aces, a block and three kills and Erica O’Brien had five kills and a block.

Kendall Stoppa had two kills for Foxborough. Ally Perry had two assists.

King Philip ends the season at 6-12 while Foxborough finishes at 7-11.
