KP Girls Soccer Team Drops a Game Against Sharon

King Philip falls in the second half to the Eagles.

A tale of two coaches' halftime messages ended with the defeating visiting King Philip, 2-1, on Monday.

Eagles senior Samantha Alves and junior Haley Cremer scored less than two minutes apart in the second half (at 21:30 and 23:20, respectively) for Sharon's third straight victory.

King Philip's Mallory Knowlton had scored at 7:20 of the first half for a 1-0 Warriors lead.

Sharon head coach Jon Lavien said he spoke to his Eagles at halftime.

"You're winning the battles, but you're not winning the game," he said. "I told them at halftime, 'You've got to score two goals. This is not about tying. This is about winning.'"

King Philip (1-3-2)'s Greg Massotti, meanwhile, said he told the Warriors that, if they could get that second goal, they'd probably win the game.

"The next goal of this game was going to be the winner," Massotti said. "If [Sharon] scored, they were going to win it. If we scored, we were going to win it."

Sharon pressured King Philip goalkeeper Jill Valente throughout the match, but the Eagles connected only in the second half.

"They were confused," Lavien said. "They weren't sure, and they weren't playing as a team."

Massotti said Sharon outplayed the Warriors throughout the game.

"They were more physical than us. They were beating us to the ball," Massotti said.

Sharon plays twice more this week:

King Philip hosts Canton at 3:30pm Wednesday.
