KP Boys Basketball Pulls Away from Attleboro

Jake Layman leads Warriors past Bombadiers.

For two and a half quarters Friday night, the Attleboro boys basketball team outperformed King Philip.

The Warriors, however, took the lead in the third and did not look back, winning 84-69 at home.

The Bombadiers exploded early, jumping out to a 22-18 lead in the first quarter. Attleboro was efficient on offense, behind the lights-out shooting of Tim Walsh and the slashing style of JJ Jolaoso (27 points).

The Warriors, though, looked out of sorts against a tenacious Attleboro defense. KP had a tough time making shots, and seemed to have trouble handling the ball. The team was able to hang around, however, and went into halftime down 38-34.

Attleboro's defensive aggressiveness worked against them in the second half, though, as they were in foul trouble early. KP picked up 29 of its 84 points from the charity stripe.

A Sam McDonald basket put the Warriors up by one (49-48) midway through the third, and KP would not trail again.

Jake Layman was the top KP scorer, picking up 27 points, and Joh Mullane contributed 20 of his own.

Attleboro (6-6) will play Dartmouth at home on Monday, while KP (9-1) takes on Stoughton at home on Tuesday.
