KP Boys Basketball Defeats Sharon

Eagles (3-3) travel to Attleboro on Friday.

Visiting King Philip scored 12 of the first 14 points toward beating the , 74-53, in Sharon Tuesday night.

KP senior co-captain Jake Layman scored 40 points. Sharon sophomore guard Brian Mukasa had 26 points.

"It was good. The guys worked hard. They've had a really tough, rough 72 hours with the death of the father [of starting center Patrick Lydon] and going to the wake. So it's been a really tough 72 hours for the kids, but they really responded well," Warriors head coach Sean McInnis said. "They stepped up for each other, and it was a good team win."

King Philip never trailed after Sharon scored the opening basket.

The Warriors led by eight, 39-31, at halftime. The Eagles got within a handful early in the third quarter, but KP finished that quarter with a nine-point lead, 52-43.

Layman scored 30 points in the first half.

"We just couldn't come up with anything," Sharon head coach Bruce Jackman said. "The junk defenses didn't work. Straight man-to-man didn't work. We didn't have an answer for him. And I thought that maybe we could give him 30 points and still beat them. But we had to shoot well, and we didn't shoot well."

Sharon (3-3) plays at Attleboro at 7pm Friday. KP (5-1) travels to Avon at 6:30pm Thursday.
