KP Baseball Team Has Offensive Explosion, Beats Norton 7-1

King Philip Baseball team wins courtesy of strong performances at plate and on the mound.

The Norton Lancers struck early in Friday's game against King Philip, with Tom Munger hitting an RBI single to bring home Christian Delano with one out in the top of the first.

That would be the last time a Norton player would cross the plate, though, as KP rode great pitching and timely hits to a 7-1 home victory.

KP starting pitcher Dave Siletti contributed five scoreless innings after allowing the run in the first. He provided the team with a six-strikeout, one walk performance.

The Warriors went ahead in the bottom of the second inning, when James Wallace hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded. Delano, the Norton pitcher, loaded the bases later in the inning, but was able to get out of the jam without further damage.

The game remained at 2-1 for several half-innings, and it appeared it would be a tight, defense-dominated struggle. The fifth, though, brought two more runs for the Warriors, courtesy of a Rob Boulter RBI double and a Dan Rosen RBI single.

Those runs changed the game into a 4-1 contest.

Norton's AJ Bashaw opened the sixth inning with a double to right field, but the Lancers were unable to take advantage of the opportunity. Siletti was able to induce a pop out and a grounder and struck out Rob Cormier to end the half-inning.

KP extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning, through RBI singles from Boulter and Jeff Plympton. This brought the score to 7-1.

KP Pitcher Connor Layman was brought in to close out the game, and he breezed through two outs before running into a bit of trouble. He allowed a grounder single from Delano and surrendered a walk to Nick Stanley, and the two runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball.

Tom Munger, though, grounded out, bringing the game to an end.
