“Every year its different because the kids are different. The team dynamics are different so its fun every year,” Mansfield coach Julie Collins said.

Coming out on top in one of the more competitive years for the distance events was Josh Lampron who scored a pair of wins in the mile (4:23.98) and 800 (1:53.89) for the Hornets.

“The kid keeps improving week to week,” Collins said of Ivas “Just outstanding league title for him. Just one of our most improved athletes on our team. It’s been a thrill to watch his progress the last 12 months.”

In the two mile, King Philip’s Chris Allen broke the meet record time with a run of 9:15.23. Taking a fast pace from start to finish, it was clear early on that no one was going to stay with Allen beyond the early part of the race. Allen’s record-breaking day continued with the 4x800 where the Warriors won and set a new meet record of 8:12.42

KP’s third win of the day came from Matt Bowers who took the 100 with a time of 11.44.

In the girls’ meet, a strong showing in the field events helped the North Attleboro Red Rocketeers take home the league title.

With the scores near identical between Mansfield and NA towards the end of the meet, Sydney Bennett’s long jump of 17-03.75 combined with a win in the 4x800 locked up the victory for the Big Red. It was a busy day for Bennett who was able to win the shot put with a throw of 40-00 and take home the 100 hurdles (15.11) title.

In the discus, the Red Rocketeers took the top three spots as Natasha Gavilanez won the event (117-01) while Kate Kummer (91-05) and Laura Malone (89-03) took second and third.

Mansfield’s Jen Esposito set a meet record in the 400 hurdles, winning the race in 1:01.96. She also took first place in the 200 (25.97).

Triple jumper Candace Steadman set the school record in the process of winning with a mark of 36-04.5. With a flair for the dramatics, Steadman fouled on her first two attempts before jumping over 35-10 to get into the finals.

In the finals, Steadman struggled before getting the winning jump on her third and last attempt.

In the javelin, Michaela Lievi won with a throw of 116-02. Laura Daley placed second for the Tigers in the shot put (35-10) behind Bennett.

In the girls’ mile, freshmen sensation Liz Holmes of Foxborough took first place with a time of 5:09.47 after leading the entire race. Later in the day she took part in the Warriors’ victorious 4x800 relay (9:50.84)

In the boys’ triple jump, Sharon’s Connor Hichens took home the only win for the Eagles win a jump of 42-10.

Stoughton’s Jade Paul held off a surging Nichole Sarkis of North Attleboro in the 800 with a time of 2:19.13 to Sarkis’ 2:21.96.

Attleboro’s Briana Robitaille asserted herself as one of the best sprinters in the state by winning the 100 by almost a second with a time of 12.17. Melissa Beaupre of North Attleboro was second with a time of 13.09.

High jumper Kevin Cutler cleared 6-2 in a winning performance for the Blue Bombardiers.
