King Philip's Rico, George Washington University in A10 Championship

Meghan Rico, a former standout at King Philip High School, is a freshman pitcher at George Washington University.

 

Former King Philip High standout Meg Rico and her George Washington University softball teammates will be playing Saint Louis University today in the Atlantic-10 Championship at UMass-Amherst at 10 a.m.

On the season, the freshman pitcher is 13-10 with a 3.06 earned run average in 31 appearances, 24 starts. Rico has struckout 133 batters, walked 126 and opponents are hitting .198 against her.

George Washington softball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship. If they beat St. Louis, they will move on to play No. 1 seed St. Joseph's Thursday at noon.

The Colonials (26-21 overall and 13-7 in A10) concluded the regular season by dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Saint Joseph's at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. The Colonials lost the first game, 5-2, then fell in the nightcap, 2-1.

Rico took a tough-luck loss in the second game, as she allowed two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out seven in six innings of work.
