King Philip's Layman Earns Spot on USA Basketball Team

Former King Philip High standout Jake Layman is playing with the USA Basketball U18 team after making the 12-men squad.

 

Before he gets to the University of Maryland in the fall, former King Philip boys' basketball standout Jake Layman is playing for the USA 18-under basketball team, coached by the University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan.

Layman made the 12-man team this week and is playing with the national team in Brazil from June 16-20 at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Sao Sebastiáo do Paraiso, Brazil.

"I'm blessed to be here," said Layman in a video interview on the USA Basketball website. "I was surprised when I got the invite."

Layman had been training with the team in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

In high school, Layman was a two-time Hockomock League MVP, scoring 1.752 points with 1.098 rebounds and 391 blocked shots. In his senior year, he averaged 26.5 points.
