King Philip Hockey Struggles Against a Strong Mansfield Team

The Warriors fell to Mansfield in their first league match of the season.

Playing defense for the majority of the game, it was only a matter of time before the Mansfield Hornets erupted against the King Philip Warriors. Despite holding the Hornets to only a goal in the first quarter, King Philip fell to Mansfield 5-0 in a Hockomock League match-up.

It only took the Hornets 93 seconds to get on the board as a shot from the top of the right face-off circle by Billy Grant deflected off the glove of KP goalie Matt Carr and into the goal to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors’ best chance to tie the game came a little more than nine minutes into the game when Chris Rando’s shot from the left went wide right.

Mansfield put the game out of distance from King Philip with a three-goal period. Brandon Murphy extended the lead to two with a goal off the face-off with 6:55 left.

Less than two minutes later, Adam Blackman added to the Mansfield tally with Kevin Flynn receiving credit for the assist.

Flynn wrapped up the period for the Hornets, streaking towards the goal from the right for the fourth Mansfield goal of the evening.

A final power play goal by Kyle Hurley with 40-seconds left in the game capped off a strong performance by the Hornets and improved their record to 1-0-1.

The Warriors fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

Mansfield will visit Canton on December 22 while King Philip will travel to Bishop Feehan on the same day.
