King Philip Controls Ball, Blanks Sharon

Visiting Warriors win, 34-0.

Both the King Philip Regional and Sharon high school varsity football teams came into Saturday's game with the same record: 2-0.

They handled the ball differently on Saturday, though, and KP won, 34-0.

"We made some mistakes and didn't come off the ball well. They came out tougher and off the ball better than we did," Sharon head coach Dave Morse said. "They did what they wanted to do because we didn't come off the ball well."

Warriors quarterback John Dillon threw three touchdown passes: two to Michael Viola and one to Sam McDonald. Ryan Dunn and Charles Ruffin ran for KP's other touchdowns. Dunn also kicked four extra points.

KP led 21-0 at halftime.

However, the Warriors made several penalties — including a holding call that overturned a Ruffin TD run on KP's third play of the game.

"We had a nice win, but, at the same time, it felt like we did not play very well at all," KP head coach Brian Lee said. "One of the things that we've been worried about is talking about inexperience all the time, and it showed today with penalties. It showed today with not lining up correctly. It showed today with turning the ball over, breaking down on special teams.

"All that being said, I thought that Sharon was playing as hard as they possibly could, and were a lot of the reason we had trouble and lost our composure," he added.

Sharon plays next Saturday at 3pm at Stoughton.

King Philip hosts Mansfield at 7pm Friday.
