King Philip Cheerleaders Headed to Pennsylvania For Championships

Squad to compete at Hershey Parks Giant Center in hopes of a national championship.

For the first time in King Philip’s history, the cheerleading team has earned the right to participate in the in the nationals.

The Warrior cheerleaders, under the guidance of Head Coach Lauren Webber, will be making the trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania on May 6-8 in hopes of capturing a title at The American Cheer Power Battle of the States National Championships.

The 16-member squad from the tri-town area will be one of nine Division 1 Massachusetts programs to have qualified to travel to the sweetest place on Earth. KP scored a 169 in the regional championship, allowing the squad to participate in the states. The team then qualified for the nationals with a score of 160.

Webber’s girls have never accomplished anything of this magnitude before.

“It’s very exciting,” the coach said. “When we scored the 160 at the states, the girls reacted as if they had just won. It was truly a great way to end a successful season.”

With the competition just over a month away, the cheerleaders are looking to earn as much money as possible to get to Hershey Park. KP’s ultimate goal is $7,500, which would cover all competition fees, transportation, hotels, park tickets and food. The cheerleaders are going to be fundraising over the next few weeks.

On Wednesday, April 6 from 5pm to 8pm, the squad will be holding a pasta dinner at the American Legion Post 225 on South Street in Wrentham. For a mere $10 donation (children under 5 are free), one can dine on food generously donated by Bar Louie, Eagle Brook Saloon and Renaissance Hotel at Patriot Place.

Two weeks later — on Monday, April 18 — the team will receive a percentage of the nightly proceeds at Papa Gino’s in Franklin. Just mention your dining to help the KP Cheerleaders and 20 percent of your meal cost will benefit the squad.

Finally, on Saturday, April 23 at the King Philip High School parking lot, you can rid your car of the winter salt and dirt between 9am and 1pm.

For more information or to make a donation to the team, you can contact Coach Webber at (774) 306-6372 or CheerCoach9948@hotmail.com.
