King Philip Boys' Lacrosse Can't Hold on Against Mansfield

Despite a strong first half, the Warriors fell 15-8 to Mansfield.

Though a quarter and a half of play and tied 5-5, it appeared the Mansfield Hornets and King Philip Warriors were in for a shootout. The Hornets, however, cracked down on defense and pulled away for a 15-8 win over the Warriors.

With the loss, the Warriors fall to 3-10.

Two quick goals from Conor Finerty and Mike Barressi put the Hornets up 2-0 early in the first quarter but the Warriors would use possession to get the lead by the end of the quarter.

Chris White started things for King Philip with a 10 yard shot followed by a wraparound wide angle goal by Jack Riley to tie the game 2-2 about halfway through the quarter.

Trailing 3-2 going into the second quarter, Finerty and Barressi struck again to give the Hornets a 4-3 lead with 10:43 to play in the half.

Despite some back and forth scoring, the Hornets took control of the game with about six minutes remaining in the half and refused to let up. Going on a 4-0 run though the beginning of the third quarter, Finerty's shot from 10 yards away put the Hornets up for good and goals from Mike Donnelly and Barressi's third goal gave Mansfield a 8-5 lead at halftime.

Barressi was able to extend to lead to four off a feed Bryan Hurley early in the third quarter. Despite Pialetti's goal to cut the lead back to three, a 6-2 run by the Hornets would wrap up a favorable result for Mansfield.

The Warriors travel to North Attleboro on May 8.
