How Will Davenport Division Football Shake Up?

With two games remaining in the season, the division is still up for grabs.

With nine weeks down and two weeks remaining, Hockomock League football is far from over. And, for the first time ever, two teams from the league will advance to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs.

At 2-0 in the division with  (Friday) and  (Thanksgiving) remaining on their schedule, the Black Knights are the only remaining undefeated team. Oliver Ames and Sharon both sit at 1-1, while Canton and Foxborough sit at 1-2. A win Friday night against OA secures a spot in the state tournament for Stoughton.

An OA victory on Friday swings the momentum to the Tigers, though, who play Sharon on Thanksgiving. While OA has lost three games in a row, including a , the Tigers are still the most capable of challenging Stoughton for the title.

There is still a glimmer of hope for the  Eagles as well. While a Week 4 28-7 loss to Stoughton hangs over their heads, a perfect end to the season along with a few stars aligning could send Sharon to the state tournament.

For  and , chances are slim. They cannot win the division outright, but tying is not out of the question.

While a head to head match-up determines a two-way tie, things get tricky after that. In the event of a three, four or five-way tie, the team to allow the fewest points against divisional and common opponents would advance. Currently, Stoughton leads the division, having only allowed 130 points overall, 20 of which were to divisional opponenets. Oliver Ames has allowed 143 points overall and 36 to divisional opponents. Sharon has allowed 215 points overall, and 41 to divisional opponents.

While Canton and Foxborough have played one more divisional game than the other three teams to this point, Canton has allowed 194 points overall and 84 to divisional opponents and Foxborough has allowed 166 points overall and 57 to divisional opponents.

In other words, for Canton and Foxborough to have hope, they better be playing some tough 'D' in these final two weeks.

Here are ten scenarios that could occur in the final two weeks of the season.

Scenario One:

Stoughton beats Oliver Ames and Canton to finish 4-0.

The Black Knights win the division outright.

Stoughton advances

Scenario Two:

Stoughton beats Oliver Ames, but loses to Canton to finish 3-1.

Sharon loses to Foxborough but beats Oliver Ames. OA, Sharon, Foxborough, and Canton finish 2-2.

The Black Knights win the division outright.

Stoughton advances

Scenario Three:

Stoughton beats Oliver Ames but loses to Canton to finishes 3-1

Sharon beats Foxborough and beats Oliver Ames.  OA and Foxborough finish 1-3. Canton finishes 2-2 and Sharon finishes 3-1.

Stoughton and Sharon both finish 3-1 to tie in the division, but Stoughton beat Sharon head to head on Oct. 1.

Scenario Four

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames but beats Canton to finish 3-1

Sharon beats Foxborough and beats Oliver Ames. Canton and Foxborough finish 1-3. OA finishes 2-2, and Sharon finishes 3-1

Stoughton and Sharon both finish 3-1 to tie in the division, but Stoughton beat Sharon head to head on Oct. 1.

Stoughton advances.

Scenario Five

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames and loses to Canton to finish 2-2.

Sharon beats Foxborough and beats Oliver Ames. Foxborough finishes 1-3. OA and Canton finish 2-2. Sharon finishes 3-1

Sharon wins the division outright.

Sharon advances.

Scenario Six

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames but beats Canton to finish 3-1.

Sharon loses to Foxborough and loses to Oliver Ames. Sharon and Canton finish 1-3. Foxborough finishes 2-2 and Oliver Ames finishes 3-1

Stoughton and Oliver Ames tie in the division but Oliver Ames beat Stoughton Nov. 11.

Oliver Ames advances.

Scenario Seven

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames but beats Canton to finishes 3-1.

Sharon beats Foxborough and loses to Oliver Ames. Foxborough and Canton finish 1-3. Sharon finishes 2-2 and OA finishes 3-1

Stoughton and Oliver Ames tie in the division but Oliver Ames beat Stoughton Nov. 11.

Oliver Ames Advances

Scenario Eight

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames and loses to Canton to finish 2-2.

Sharon beats Foxborough and loses to Oliver Ames. Foxborough finishes 1-3. Sharon and Canton finish 2-2. Oliver Ames finishes 3-1.

Oliver Ames wins the division outright.

Oliver Ames Advances

Scenario Nine

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames and loses to Canton to finish 2-2.

Sharon beats Foxborough and loses to Oliver Ames. Foxborough finishes 1-3. Sharon, Oliver Ames and Canton finish 2-2.

Stoughton, Oliver Ames, Sharon and Canton tie for the division.

Of the four 2-2 teams, the team that has allowed the least points against divisional and common opponents advances.

Scenario Ten

Stoughton loses to Oliver Ames and loses to Canton to finish 2-2.

Sharon loses to Foxborough and beats Oliver Ames. Sharon, OA, Canton, and Foxborough all finish 2-2.

The division is a five-way tie.
