Hockomock League Football Recap: Undefeated Teams Fall; New Division Favorites Emerge

A recap of Week 7 football action in the Hockomock League.

Heading into week 7, it was fair to say King Philip and Stoughton, both undefeated, were the favorites in the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex and Davenport Divisions, respectively. But after a crazy Saturday of Hockomock League football, filled with upsets and shootouts, new favorites have emerged.

Canton had a week 7 bye, but all the other teams had division games, which meant all games had direct playoff implications. The division winners from the Davenport and Kelly-Rex advance to the postseason.

In the Davenport, Stoughton fell at Sharon, 16-14, after Sean Asnes scored the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. The win put Sharon in the Davenport driver's seat with a perfect 2-0 record. Stoughton is 1-1. Foxborough, meanwhile climbed back into contention with a 27-6 win against visiting Oliver Ames. The Warriors are now 1-1 in division play; Oliver is Ames is 0-1.

Sharon plays a non-league game in week 8, while Stoughton/Oliver Ames and Foxborough/Canton square off in Davenport action. All four of these teams have one division loss, so a week 8 loss would severely hamper any playoff hopes. There are only four division games for Davenport teams, and it will almost certainly take more than a 2-2 division record to win the Davenport.

In the Kelly-Rex, Mansfield beat visiting King Philip, 46-33, so the Hornets at 2-0 in the division, as is Franklin, who beat Attleboro in a 44-41 thriller. Mansfield and Franklin are now the favorites, with King Philip and North Attleboro (both 1-1 in the division) looking up. Attleboro and Taunton (both 0-2 in the division) are in an early hole. There are five division games for Kelly-Rex teams.

If nothing else, week 7 proved just how unpredictable the Hockomock League is. So while, Sharon and Mansfield/Franklin are in the driver's seats of the respective divisions for now, there are four weeks left in the season, and between 2-3 division games left to be played per team. Get ready for the stretch run - should be a wild ride.
