Bailey Leaves Assumption for Coastal Carolina Football Program

Former King Philip assistant football coach Cory Bailey has new job. Bailey is now on the staff of Coastal Carolina University as an assistant coach, working with the defensive line and being the recruiting coordinator. He was the freshman coach and varsity defensive coordinator from 2002-04 at KP.

Bailey was the former head coach at Assumption College before resigns in January to move to Coastal Carolina.

"I am incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to be the head football coach at Assumption College," said Bailey. "Assumption has become part of my family and will always have a special place in my heart. I am extremely excited to see the program take the next step in its development towards becoming a perennial power in the Northeast-10. I am confident that the future is bright and Assumption College Football will continue to be a program that we can all be proud of."

Bob Chesney was named to replace him at Assumption.

After playing at Xaverian High School, Bailey played at Fordham University where he was the team MVP in 1997 as a center before playing professionally with the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe as an offensive guard and long snapper. He also worked in coaching, breaking down game film and scouting opponents.

Bailey was signed as free agent by the New York Giants and also did a coaching internship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

He spent eight years as the Assumption head coach and compiled a 32-50 record over two stints. From 2004-07, he posted a 13-28 record and was 19-22 from 2009-12, leaving the institution to pursue an opportunity in the private sector for the 2008 season.

Bailey also been an assistant coach at Iona College, Dean Junior College and Fordham.
