Another Stellar Pitching Performance For King Philip Softball

Meg Carnase tosses a perfect game as KP downs Avon, 6-0.

With the abundance of rain the area has had over the last week, it’s been difficult for high school teams to get any games in. With only a week and a half left, teams are pushing to make up any and all games cancelled because of the weather.

The King Philip softball team was slated to visit Avon in the team’s 17th game of the season. Unfortunately, the Panthers' field was oversaturated with water, and the game was moved to the Wayne “Butch” Watters Jr. Memorial Field in Plainville.

Warrior hurler Meg Carnase picked up her fifth win of the season by tossing a perfect game against Avon. The 6-0 win improved King Philip’s record to a perfect 17-0 with only a handful of games remaining.

“While a lot of teams have had trouble rescheduling rainouts, we’re ahead of the game,” King Philip Coach Jim Leonard said. “We’ve been able to keep up with our make-ups, and are in good shape with only three games left.”

Carnase was brilliant on the mound, posting 13 strikeouts. Although it was not the 19 that teammate Meg Rico put on the board two days earlier against North Attleboro, it was impressive nonetheless.

As Carnase held the Panthers at bay, KP would get all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning. Jenn Robillard singled in the opening inning and then proceeded to move around to third on back-to-back steals. The Warriors shortstop would scoot home on a passed ball.

KP will host Attleboro on Monday May 23 at 3:30pm and Milford on Tuesday at 7pm. The season will conclude with the Hockomock League Invitational against Oliver Ames on Thursday.

Tuesday night's matchup with the undefeated Scarlet Hawks is a rematch from last year.  Milford defeated KP 1-0, scoring in the top of the seventh inning of a regular season contest, but the Warriors took the more important second game, 10-1, capturing the Division 1State Championship.

“The 7pm start is good for the sport,” the KP coach said. “The later start allows those who usually can’t get to a game see the team in action.”
