District officials announced this week that a candidate has been chosen for the King Philip Regional High School principal position.

Robert Wargo, a current vice principal at the high school, has been selected for the position, according to District Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski.

Wargo was selected from a field of three candidates. The other members of the field were Newburyport High School Vice Principal Timothy McCarron and Windham (New Hampshire) High School teacher Richard Manley.

The selection was the result of a lengthy search process that included input from community members and school staff.

The search had drawn controversy over teacher representation on the committee. The administration had sought faculty volunteers for the search committee, but the teachers union wanted to choose the teachers who would participate.
