KP School Committee Seat Unfilled after Election

Seat now subject to King Philip

The person who received the most votes for the King Philip School Committee has declined the position, and the seat is now subject to the committee agreement, according to the town clerk's office.

No one filed to run for the position, which was previously held by Matthew Gray.

In an email sent Wednesday, Town Clerk Carol Mollica said there had been 51 write-in votes for the position. The top candidate received three votes, while four people received two votes and 21 got one vote.

The top candidate, William Daniel Jr., declined the position

"With a regional school committee, if the top vote getter declines the office, it then becomes a 'failure to elect,'" the email reads. "As to filling the office, it then goes to the rules and regs of the King Philip School Committee agreement."
