KP School Committee Seat to be filled via Appointment

The town failed to elect a representative to the King Philip School Committee.

Though Wrentham did not elect a representative to the School Committee, district officials said there is a process in place to appoint members.

, and the top write-in candidate declined the position.

KP Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said the process in the event of a town's failure to elect a representative is set by the district bylaws.

"What happens is the position is posted for those interested in serving an interim term," she said. "The term usually lasts one year."

Zielinski said interested people would send letters to the Wrentham Board of Selectmen.

"The selectmen, along with the two sitting Wrentham members of the [KP school committee], meet and make a selection," she said.

According to Zielinski, this isn't the first time a town has failed to elect a committee member.

"The same thing happened in Norfolk a few years ago," she said. "[Committee member] Mike Gee first became involved with the committee through that process."
