King Philip Talks With Towns About Contributions

KP working with towns to determine funding levels.

The King Philip School Committee, at its meeting Monday night, discussed funding talks with the three towns that make up the district.

District Business Administrator Paul Schaefer said there had been a meeting with Norfolk's Advisory Board. He said the town was working to get up to the level of the number in Wrentham's proposed budget.

Committtee Chairman Patrick Francomano said such an increase is possible.

"I think reaching the Wrentham number would not be a huge stretch for Norfolk," he said. "Speaking with the Norfolk people, we were trying to pitch an increase of 6.5 to 7.3 percent, and they indicated at the time that it might be difficult."

Francomano said those town officials feared such an increase would result in taking from other departments, but that they were open to discussion.

"The idea is, if we get Norfolk to increase, Plainville follows," he said, adding that the committee had received an invitation to a Plainville meeting on May 1.

Schaefer said the district's administrative team would be going over the currently available numbers.
