Peggy McDonough has been employed as the Regional Director of the SHINE Program at HESSCO Elder Services for the past 18 years.  Her service region encompasses twenty-four towns located in Norfolk and Plymouth counties.  She trains and supervises a staff of 40 volunteer counselors who provide one-on-one counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their families.  She conducts community forums to provide information to seniors and their family members regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Prescription Drug coverage, MassHealth and a number of other benefit programs.

    Peggy assists the Executive Office of Elder Affairs by providing training to new counselors and elder network staff.  She participated in a national advisory committee with staff from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to develop a public benefits training manual. In  1998 Peggy established a work group for SHINE Program Directors to share best practices, problem solve complex cases, and institute uniform training protocols. She has appeared on numerous media programs and has contributed to publications in local newspapers.   She is regarded as an expert in her knowledge of elder benefits and services and is frequently asked to speak at professional assemblies.
